Here’s the August 2022 weather summary from Visit Fylde Coast resident weather expert, David Walmsley.
Photo 27th August – Not Cleveleys but the Isle of Man from St Bees Cumbria.
In my weather update for May, I indicated Europe including the UK was in for a hot, dry summer given the strong La Nina in the Eastern Pacific. I was reminded of this on the 19th of July when Cleveleys experienced a 95F. A fraction cooler than a weather station near Forton (Garstang) where it reached 98F.
This summer has also been significantly dryer and sunnier than average despite a couple of monster deluges in June. Indeed, early indications are that this Summer has been the joint hottest in England since records began.
The forecast for late Autumn/Winter has never been more crucial given the energy crisis. However, given La Nina is still active, such conditions generally result in a dry late Autumn over parts of Europe. All will be revealed in due course.
