A summertime month of mixed fortunes – here’s your Fylde Coast July 2022 Weather Summary from David Walmsley.
July 2022 Weather Summary
Temperature: The first ten days of the month were a fraction cooler than normal, prompted in the main by a vigorous sea breeze at times, and then it all happened but more about that below. Indeed, Northern England may even have set a record for its average July night-time temperatures.
Rainfall: The driest July on record in the South East but not in the North West. That said, whilst we still had a dryer than average month, had it not been for the heavy rain on the 1st and the 30th we would have been parched and probably facing a hose pipe ban by now.
Sunshine: A very good month with long spells of blue sky much of the time.
The highlight of the Month: The 19th will live long in the memory – almost certainly the hottest day ever in Cleveleys. We reached 35C (95F) and had it not been for a slight sea breeze kicking in around 1-00 pm, I am certain we would have experienced a 38C (100F) as did a weather station in the Garstang area. It seems hard to believe, but just three weeks earlier we had another spectacular event. We were very fortunate that Cleveleys is very flat – all that rainwater concentrated into a narrow area running down a strong gradient and we would have made the national headlines, as did Boscastle and Lynmouth a long time ago.
