Temperature: Daytime temperatures were average for the month with the recent trend for warmer nights again in evidence.

Rainfall: The first three weeks of the month were relatively dry and then it went downhill big style

Sunshine: Good sunny periods for much of the month, although not many ‘dawn till dusk’ days were recorded.
The highlight of the Month: According to the Met Office, Morecambe was the wettest place in the Country with 25mm on the 27th – little did they know that just down the coast Cleveleys smashed that figure with a whopping 62.9mm. The forecast was for an occluded front to pass over Cleveleys which generally results in only light rain, hence the lack of any warning from the Met Office. What actually happened must have involved a lot of energy in the upper atmosphere – I wish I knew where it came from and how it got concentrated over such a small area.
The one small blessing was our flat terrain. Once on the ground, it was going nowhere but down the drain eventually. I’m reminded of the two seaside towns of Boscastle and Lynmouth and what happened there. Their terrain is dominated by a significant gradient with a central watercourse running through their town centre which resulted in raging torrents of water, particularly in the 1952 flash flood in Lynmouth causing much destruction and loss of life. It certainly was a morning to remember in Cleveleys, but thankfully most of us were back to normal by the end of the day.
