March Weather 2022
The past winter was the fourth warmest on record in Northern Ireland, NW England, and Wales. This trend continued throughout March thus ensuring an early start to the growing season. The countryside is now awake and the hawthorn hedgerows are showing an early abundance of green leaves. The top ten warmest years in the UK have all occurred since 2002 and few will disagree now that global warming is gathering pace.
Temperature: March saw a run of unseasonably high temperatures here in Cleveleys with only one night-time air frost – 0.1C on the 7th.
Rainfall: Rainfall was in short supply as evidenced by 21 completely rain-free days.
Sunshine: Only six days in the month when the sun failed to show but the real bonus was its longevity with dawn till dusk a regular feature combined with very light winds and some fabulous sunsets on the promenade. Probably the sunniest March ever on the Fylde Coast.
The highlight of the Month: It has to be the 19.3C experienced on the 23rd, the same day Myerscough College recorded a 20C, the highest temperature in the country on that day.
