What did May weather 2022 have in store for us? Was it good, bad or average? Our resident weather watcher, David Walmsley, takes a look…
Summer has arrived and with La Nina still going strong in the Eastern Pacific, the Forecasters are predicting a hot, dry summer for parts of Europe including the UK. In the meantime, we will have to wait and see as a lot could still go wrong in the weeks ahead.
As for the Spring just ended, the early part was slightly warmer and dryer than usual. With May turning out to be just about average, it is fair to say we have had a good Spring. Photo taken on 12 May
Temperature: Again, the night-time minimums were well above average
Average Daily Maximum 15.3C (historical average 15.5C)
Average Night Minimum 10.6C (historical average 7.4C)
Air Frosts 0 (historical average 1)
Rainfall: Only three very wet days – otherwise frequent showery rain but only in dribs and drabs.
Rainfall 51.8mm (96% of average)
Days with rain 15 (historical average 10)
Sunshine: Not always dawn till dusk but nevertheless a good sunny month.
The highlight of the Month: If I had to choose a favourite month to be in the Countryside it would have to be May. The frothy white combination of hawthorn flowers and cow parsley is especially evocative of spring and this year was no exception – hence the photograph.
