Wyre Ramblers is a friendly, long established rambling group based on the North Fylde area of Lancashire. Membership is mostly people from the local towns of Fleetwood, Thornton, Cleveleys and Poulton-le-Fylde.
There are fortnightly coach trips, all year round. In a typical year the ramblers visit Lancashire, The Eden Valley, Forest of Bowland, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Howgill Fells, Peak District, North Yorkshire, Scotland and Wales.
A variety of walks are usually available, each led by an experienced leader. These will usually cover distances from about 6 to 15 miles, depending on conditions, locality and time of year.

Benefits of Wyre Ramblers
Nicola is a new member of the group and she told us why she joined. Nicola explains –
“Hiking is becoming quite fashionable at the moment. I’ve noticed a lot of young people taking to the fells in the Lakes over the last couple of years. I am part of the Wyre Ramblers. I joined this club as I’m not originally from Lancashire. It’s a good way to meet some new friends whilst getting out and enjoying the outdoors. And it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done.
“I have met some really lovely people and visited some amazing places that I would have never dared venture to alone. My map reading skills are pretty poor, if non existent :-).
Trips with Wyre Ramblers
“Our club goes out every 2nd Sunday. We get picked up by coach and each of us pays a £12 fare towards the cost of it. Pick-up stops include Blackpool, Bispham, Fleetwood, Thornton and Poulton.
“We usually go to the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales or Peak District. There’s an easy/moderate walk and a hard walk, both led by experienced walk leaders.

“The easy/moderate walk is about 7-8 miles and may include some big hills. A hard walk is between 11-15 miles and guaranteed to include quite a few big hills! It’s also quite fast paced – but a great way to get fit and meet new friends. It’s a very welcoming club. The walk usually ends with a glass of wine or a pint in a lovely little country pub.
