How would you describe it to aliens? To someone who’s never heard of it, never been?

Let’s start with where it is. Blackpool in England is a northern seaside town, probably the best known in the whole United Kingdom. Specifically it’s on the West coast in Lancashire, a ceremonial county in North West England. Cumbria is in the north, North and West Yorkshire in the east, Greater Manchester and Merseyside in the south, and the Irish Sea to the west. Blackpool is the largest settlement in the county – but the county town is the city of Preston. This area where Blackpool in Lancashire sits is also known as the Fylde Coast – a peninsula of land created by the Rivers Wyre and Ribble. Cleveleys, Fleetwood and Poulton are to the north and east. Lytham St Annes is to the south. Here it is, at the pin on the map of the United Kingdom.

It’s an ideal holiday destination, bang in the middle of the country with great access from the north, south and central areas of the UK. Blackpool’s also a popular destination for Scottish holiday makers and millions flock here each year.

A Magical Place!

It’s hard to put into words what makes Blackpool so magical – but it certainly has that special something!

This friendly and welcoming town is somewhere that you can let your hair down and be yourself – whoever you are. It’s welcoming to people from 0-100 and every age in between. Walk around in a tweed suit or full fancy dress and you’ll barely raise an eyebrow! Leave your worries behind and relive those carefree childhood holidays of the past.

There’s entertainment, fun, lights, noise and something to see or do at every corner. This town genuinely does cater for everyone. Brash British Seaside lives quite happily against modern art. Buskers play the town centre and big name acts fill the Winter Gardens. Grab a sausage roll on the go or go fine-dining in one of many good local restaurants.

And Blackpool’s on the go all year round! When many other seaside towns are closed for winter, this town enjoys the Illuminations followed up with Christmas by the Sea. Even in January you can still find plenty to see and do!

Anyone of any age can have a great time when they visit Blackpool in Lancashire – it’s the BEST for family fun! There’s loads to do for little ones – visit attractions for pre-schoolers like The Gruffalo and Peter Rabbit. Or take them on the beach to build sandcastles and enjoy a donkey ride!

Blackpool in England – Best Seafront UK – bar none!

OK we’re biased! As fully paid-up members of the I Love Blackpool fan-club, we would say that. But 20 million people a year can’t be wrong – and that’s how many visited each year at the last count!

Blackpool seafront is a whopping seven miles long, from Anchorsholme (adjoining Cleveleys) in the north to Squires Gate Lane (adjoining St Annes) in the south. Along the length of it there’s something for everyone. From quiet walks watching wildlife to things to do for children. Entertainment, drinking and eating plus deckchairs and old fashioned family fun.

There’s great access to the beach along the whole of the length of it. Plus seafront gardens, quaint Victorian structures like the Cliff Lift and the Blackpool Tramway. At the landward side of the seafront, buildings line the highway. At either end, residential houses give way to hotels and accommodation. Then shops, bars and attractions fill the central Golden Mile.

Blackpool in Lancashire boasts a seafront known as the ‘Golden Mile’ but the golden, sandy beaches extend for much more than a mile – seven in fact!

Most of it is tidal – covered by the sea twice a day, every day. But when the tide’s out, there’s great access to the beautiful beaches of Blackpool in Lancashire, from end to end. As the tide retreats it leaves clean, compacted sand behind. Perfect for walking on – with the dog, the kids or just because you can. Enjoy the space and the big open skies!

Blackpool sands are also perfect for building sandcastles too. Firm and with just the right amount of water, you can build a magnificent display. Or maybe you’d prefer to bury your brother or sister!

Many miles of this seafront are quiet and don’t get busy at all – except of course for the central tourist beach between the piers. Here, the air rings with the sounds of the seaside. Kids laughing, seagulls fighting over food, music, attractions, the siren on the Tower lift. Blackpool’s relatively new sea defences form a great piece of public space too. The steps which protect against flooding are brilliant for sitting on and enjoying the view. Or hire a deckchair and settle down for a comfortable day at the beach!

The great thing about this seaside town is that there’s always something to do – whatever the weather! When the sun shines, head outside to enjoy the beach, seafront, outdoors, parks and more. When it’s drizzling you can dodge between indoor amusements, shops and arcades and keep dry. If it’s full-on blowing a storm you can take refuge in one of the many indoor attractions – like The Blackpool Tower or Sandcastle Waterpark.

Theatres and Entertainment

Blackpool in Lancashire is an amazing hub of shows, performance, theatre and entertainment! All through the year there are productions in the towns main venues: the Winter Gardens, Grand Theatre and Viva. Add in Funny Girls, the Pleasure Beach theatres, Blackpool Tower, North and Central Piers and you won’t be stuck for a theatrical night out in Blackpool!

The shows on offer cover just about every genre you can think of. There’s pantomime and comedy, classical opera and ballet, tributes and big name bands. Cabaret and drag shows, musicals and serious dramas. Children’s shows and modern dance – plus so much more.

From September to January your seafront night-time walk will be decorated with miles of the amazing Blackpool Illuminations. Get a bag of chips and maybe some candyfloss, wrap up warm and enjoy a stroll along the prom. Listen to the sounds of the sea on one side and the sounds of the town on the other.

Summer evenings are magical at the seafront as the sun’s setting. Enjoy the changing ambers and pinks as it dips down the horizon, warm evening air and the freedom of summer. Pop into a bar for a drink, enjoy a snack from a street stall and make the most of the lighter, warmer nights.

Blackpool Illuminations and Lots of Lights!

Blackpool is world famous for its annual Illuminations display. The autumnal show of lights has been extended in recent years to run right through Christmas to the New Year. From the beginning of September to the start of the following January, Blackpool in England lights up from end to end!

And even when the Illuminations go off, you must be able to see Blackpool in Lancashire from space! In the town that’s famous for lots of lights, buildings and attractions light up throughout the year for a dazzling display whenever you visit.

Blackpool Illuminations began in 1912 with a visit from Princess Louise who came to open the new promenade at Princess Parade. The arc-light display was so popular that the town’s businessmen wanted it back again. The rest is history! Now, 100+ years later, the Blackpool Illuminations has showcased many popular figures and subjects throughout the decades. From Red Rum to Sooty and Dr Who – celebrities have switch on the Lights and been immortalised in the display.

Walk the seafront and enjoy the twinkling lights in the cold night air. See the reflections doubled-up in puddles on wet and drizzly evenings. Take a magical heritage tram ride through the miles of display, or drive through the lights and marvel at the many different features. It’s amazing!
