Cleveleys in Lancashire

Shadowed a little by it’s bright and glitzy neighbour, this UK seaside town is well worth a visit at any time of the year. Cleveleys in Lancashire is small but perfectly formed. A very popular and friendly place and we’ve made a whole website about it!

Visit Cleveleys

As we said, we love Cleveleys so much that we made a website all about it! Why don’t you head off next to visitCleveleys.co.uk – it’s part of the Visit Fylde Coast family. There you can find out…

Cleveleys in Lancashire

How would you describe to someone who’s never heard of it, never been?

Let’s start with where it is. Lancashire is a ceremonial county in North West England with Cumbria in the north, North and West Yorkshire in the east, Greater Manchester and Merseyside in the south, and the Irish Sea to the west. Cleveleys is just a few miles to the north of Blackpool. In fact you can see The Tower, North Pier and other landmarks from Cleveleys seafront. On the top side of the Fylde Coast – the peninsula of land created by the Rivers Wyre and Ribble – its other neighbour is Fleetwood and Poulton is nearby. Lytham St Annes is at the other end of the Fylde Coast. Here it is, at the pin on the map of the United Kingdom.

It’s a great place to visit and ideal for a day trip or holiday. It’s bang in the middle of the country with great access from the north, south and central areas of the UK. Close to the motorway network it’s a popular day destination for people who live in the north-west of the UK. Cleveleys is also on the must-do list of most holiday makers who stay in Blackpool.

Cleveleys in Lancashire is a Magical Place!

The Blackpool to Fleetwood tramway runs through the town, joining Victoria Road West (the main high street) to the seafront and promenade.

It’s a really friendly and welcoming town – sit awhile on one of the many benches and you’ll quickly get into conversation with complete strangers! Notice the quirky decorations and attractive planting displays – the public realm is looked after by the amazing Care for Cleveleys volunteers.

From end to end the seafront measures 1.17 miles as the crow flies. It’s a nice walking distance with a varied landscape. Where Cleveleys joins Fleetwood in the north it’s a quieter, more natural environment. Central Cleveleys is a popular seaside beach with relatively new stepped sea wall. Golden sands stretch for miles and you can continue your walk for a long way in either direction.

With a large resident community, swelled by day visitors, most of the Fylde Coast is busy all year round. Cleveleys is no exception. When many other seaside towns are closed for winter, this town is busy all year through. The weather plays a big part in it – sunny days in winter can be every bit as busy as summer!

Stick it in your Family Album

Cleveleys in Lancashire – Best Seafront UK

OK we’re biased! We live in Cleveleys so we would say that. But the consistently busy town speaks for itself. Stand at the end of Victoria Road West near the tall, white Sea Swallow and see for yourself the amount of people who use it! Social media is a good barometer of pubic opinion and you’ll rarely hear a bad word said about the town – it’s universally liked by everyone who knows it.

Cleveleys seafront isn’t like Blackpool – you won’t find amusements and attractions all the way along it (but there are amusements at Victoria Road West). Things to do here roll at a slower pace – and you won’t spend as much money either!

Explore acres of golden sands, collect shells and look for sea creatures in puddles and rock pools. Build sandcastles and play games as you watch the beautiful view and sunsets. Visit each of the pieces of the Mythic Coast art trail – they’re all huge! On rainy days you can head indoors for the latest film at Vue Cinema. Kids will enjoy the playgrounds at Jubilee Gardens and the splash area at FBK – the seafront cafe where Star Wars was filmed. Take a stroll to The Venue at the seafront (it’s dog friendly) and enjoy a meal or refreshing drink overlooking the beach. And there’s great access to the beach along the whole of the length of it.

Shopping and Things to Do

With a main shopping area that’s actually longer than the Trafford Centre, this small town is densely packed with all kinds of shops. There’s the popular national names and plenty of independents. Food stores, butchers and bakers. Jewellers, clothes and furniture, gifts and more. Plus plenty of quality charity shops with an astonishing range on sale – they’re a tourist attraction in their own right!

Of course there are also plenty of places to eat at Cleveleys in Lancashire. Pavement cafes, bars and restaurants are open throughout the day and in the evening. Not to mention takeaway food (and delicious fish and chips!) so you won’t be stuck for choice.

Check the Cleveleys Town Centre Group website – the group organise various events throughout the year to enliven the town centre. There’s often a busker playing and you’ll hear music throughout the town from the self-funded announcement system. There’s also Cleveleys market to visit – watch out for it coming to a new town centre location.

An Amazing Community!

The community doesn’t just organise events – the Care for Cleveleys volunteers also look after flower beds, weeding, litter picking, small painting and maintenance jobs. They fundraise for Christmas Lights and improvements across the town. Spot them out and about in their yellow hi-viz.

Superb Sunsets

Did we mention that it’s nice and flat? Which makes it easy for everyone to get about. It’s also one of the reasons why it’s a popular retirement town.

And as it’s on the west coast – you’ll see THE most magnificent sunsets – all throughout the year!
