Are you are an adult who’s started to play a stringed instrument? Or you have rediscovered the instrument you used to play? You might be interested in joining Phoenix Strings. It’s a small, friendly string orchestra, meeting weekly in Thornton Cleveleys, Lancashire.
Founded in 2007 by John Foster, a well known professional violinist, teacher and conductor. He recognised the gap in provision for opportunities for adult string players, more specifically returners or late starters. Under John’s guidance the orchestra has developed and flourished, undertaking many musical challenges.
The group plays a selection of classical and light music, arranged for string ensemble. Existing members have a wide range of musical ability but especially adults who may be late starters or who are returning to playing after a break. Members come from various parts of Lancashire, including people of all ages.
Public performance is a key focus of the orchestra and we aim to perform at least two concerts each year.
