The Care for Cleveleys team has carried on this year, making the tubs look really nice in the town centre. They’ve added lots of flowers bought with donations, and had pots of fun doing it.
They’ve tried to make up for last years poor pots due to the Covid. Of course it was a shame not to do them last year, so the voluntary group have had to work extra hard this year. Our town has been kept mostly weed and litter free, which receives many comments of how lovely it looks compared to other places. A lot of sweat and hard work has gone into this, from what are mostly elderly people. They even go out watering most nights to keep the flowers alive.
Pots of Fun – with sarcasm…
As you can imagine, they’re all really proud of the difference they’ve made to our town.
But would you believe (yes I would) a gang of about 40 young yobbos rampaged through the town last week. They went from one end to the other jumping in the tubs along the way. They’ve flattened flowers along with trampling through the round garden at the clock bed at Nutter Road. Two of our friends found this at just turned 6pm when they went out to water the plants. All the love, care and time they had put in, to have them trampled down, pulled out and just thrown. Our friends were hopping mad when we saw them on Friday for our video chat, and no wonder too.
What on earth is wrong with them and why aren’t they stopped? They go onto bigger and nastier, knowing they will get away with it. But I thought I’d heard it all, until I found out more and what else is going on. There have been numerous incidents in this area over the last few weeks – which isn’t usual at all. One involved an intimidating gang smashing glass bottles and being threatening on Anchorsholme Park.
A Lovely Evening Ruined
Another night after tea, a group of families had met on the beach down by Anchorsholme. Along with their children they’d gone to enjoy the coast and have a lovely time. But oh no they didn’t, as up to thirty or forty yobbos launched on them to spoil a peaceful family outing.They were abusive, confrontational and intimidating and were carrying knives. It must have been terrifying for the poor people. I believe some of the men verbally took them on but they were just awful and frightening, and in front of young kids. Would you believe the police turned up and did scarcely did anything. So what’s the point is there in getting them there?
Our councillor made a Facebook comment in disgust, like we all do, and it’s absolutely gone barmy. The comment was made under his own name, not acting as a councillor, but can you believe he has been reported to the Council. He’s now under investigation for the remark – which was nothing compared to what I was thinking. First it appeared on the LancsLive website, then the rest of the media followed.
He simply said ‘club them’. It was made on a closed group, a private group called Thornton Cleveleys Chat and caused a right storm and uproar at the injustice of it. Obviously it wasn’t an instruction and no one would have even considered taking the comment as advice. It’s the kind of thing we all say. They should be ashamed of themselves, trying to bring down a pro-active councillor who does all he can for Cleveleys. Which is more than a lot of councillors have done. There were so many people defending him and outraged at what had happened with the youths that the police shocked us all.
Police Attendance
They turned up in the area in full protective gear, with big burly blokes and all the lot. I believe they weren’t to be messed with – which is to be commended. At last, action. The problem is that once in a blue moon is no good. It needs regular policing all over Cleveleys before the natives revolt as they say. Our town is sick and tired of these youths doing what they want and getting away with it.
Imagine being confronted by an angry mob of 50 yobbos. I would have been terrified. They’ve been running rampage in Anchorsholme park, a place where such a lot of hard work has been done, led by Paul Galley. He’s another lovely, very pro-active man along with the team who look after the park. They’ve worked endlessly to make it a place for people to enjoy.
Talk about soul destroying, it’s not in it. Apparently youths have also been on Jubilee Gardens brandishing knives. So the question is, why are they allowed to get away with it? Why aren’t the police doing something about it? They’re clearly trying to wreck the area, bit by bit.
Not Welcome Here
I think the good folk here are ready for action, instead of just letting them off with no consequences to themselves. The kids must have a right laugh about the police. Someone said they were a gang from from Blackpool, whether it’s true or not I don’t know, but they aren’t welcome here that’s for sure.
The problem is escalating all over England. Instead of the police being matey-matey with them, they should let them know they mean business and the long arm of the law is in charge. We’ve watched the police many times on our prom where an incident is reported, they turn up to be seen laughing and chatting with the thugs before driving off. What about old fashioned respect for authority? Or has that gone forever? It seems to be the case from where I’m sitting.
The parents should be held responsible for their offspring and made to pay for any damage caused. They might think twice about where and what their offspring are doing. If I hear one more time about being ‘bored’, having a poor childhood and all the rest of the excuses that are paraded. Along with ‘it’s the government cuts’, I might just scream that loud that they’ll employ me to be the Fleetwood fog horn, and I’m not kidding. Stop the excuses and pull your fingers out, parents, police whoever is involved. Make the fear go away that a lot of people are feeling in our lovely town. And there I will end my rant for today!!
