Each year, places across England throw open their doors and give people the chance to see hidden spaces and try new experiences for free. And every event is free – even those at places that usually charge. So you can still have fun and explore your local area. More than 4500 venues across the country will welcome visitors at England’s largest festival of history and culture.

2025 Heritage Open Days
This is a national event, that takes places during mid September each year. There are open doors and interesting tours at buildings and interesting places along the Fylde Coast. Many of them have Blue Plaques but a lot of them don’t. The Fylde Coast area played an important role during WW2 and you can explore some of this history too.
At many venues there are tours and guides to tell you everything that you want to know. A lot of these buildings aren’t normally open to the public during the rest of the year, and it’s FREE admission at them all. Some of them are only open on this one day of the year. It’s your chance to look behind locked doors and behind the scenes. Make the most of this chance!

Back again in 2025
‘Lucky Dip’ tours were introduced in 2024. There’s an online ballot for you to enter for a chance to get on the following tours:
- Blackpool Tower – Sunday 21st September, 10.30am
- Lightworks Illuminations Depot – Friday 19th September, 1pm
There’s a limited number of tickets available for each tour via the ballot. To enter, please register your details for your chosen tour. This does not guarantee a place on the tour. Winners were selected at random on Friday 5 September and notified if successful.
These events are not organised by Visit Fylde Coast – all details are correct at time of publication. Please contact the organisers for further information.

Blackpool and the Fylde Coast offers a fantastic programme of events each year. Such a lot to see and learn from a wide-ranging history of Blackpool, Lytham, Fleetwood and Wyre.

The White Church at Fairhaven
Visit Fylde Coast contributor, Sue Massey, popped along to view the interior of The White Church at Fairhaven.
How many times do you pass interesting places on the bus and think, “Must check that out”? The Heritage Open Day offered the perfect opportunity to visit The White Church.
It’s an impressive building from the outside and is a striking landmark in Fairhaven and Ansdell. On entering the church, the inside is stunning, in particular the stained glass windows.
Sue says “I spoke to Jan Hirst, Heritage Coordinator, a friendly and knowledgeable church member who was eager to answer questions. As were other volunteers on hand for the Heritage Open Days.”
