Thank goodness for that, green bins are to be collected again this week. It couldn’t have come at a worse time when everything is growing like mad in the garden. Lots of things need chopping down and lawns need cutting. Today’s blog is aptly titled ‘what a load of rubbish’ as we all seem to have plenty of it!
We’re at a bit of a standstill at the moment with our lawns because Kevin is slowly, very slowly, decorating. For an impatient person, I’ve done very well in not nagging at him to be quick. I know there’s a lot of woodwork to paint with all the doors that lead into a hallway but I will be so glad when he’s finished and we can move onto the next room! When that will be I don’t know but you can hope.
What a Load of Rubbish
Going back to garden rubbish and dustbins, how are you all managing with the new red bins?
We are struggling with ours, now that you can put more different plastic things in them. Ours wasn’t long before the bottom of the bin disappeared and it became full to the top. It’s a good job that they are emptying it today (Tuesday) or plastic would be running down our path!

I did notice that someone had banged the rubbish down in the red bin a few days ago, and no it wasn’t me. It’s a wonder Kevin hadn’t tried to put me on top of the plastic and shake me up and down to compress it. I bet he hadn’t thought of that, it’s a wonder he didn’t as I do come in handy for some things!
When he was a child, his parents must not have had a washing machine. They put him in the bath with the dirty clothes and had him stamping up and down on them to wash them! You couldn’t make it up could you. I suppose it was like crushing grapes to make wine where they stamped up and down on them. Except that he ended up with dirty water not wine. He’s had us screaming with laughing at some of the antics that went on when he was young!
What a Load of Rubbish to Take to the Tip
Speaking of rubbish, it looks like some rubbish tips are going to open soon thank goodness. I bet there will be a stampede when they do. I believe the one at Bispham is opening soon. We said in our house, we didn’t think they would have closed. In our ignorance we thought maybe the tips are the one place you could keep people safe and keep them open. It’s outside, where cars could queue to the gates and be let in one at a time. The men operating the tips could keep well away from the person holding their rubbish, and as they say ‘the job’s a goodun’!
Of course, as always happens anyway, there’s been fly tipping everywhere. Some people make rubbish and decide to dump it where they fancy, often out of sight and in the country where they hope they won’t be seen. Some can’t be bothered to have a nice run out into the countryside to get rid of their stuff and tip it just where they want. It turns up in alleys, on streets you name it they do it.

I personally think it’s awful to make the landowner pay to have it moved – it can run into the thousands of pounds. I would be hopping up and down like a little garden gnome having a paddy. Did you know that when you employ people to get rid of your rubbish you should always ask for their legal documents and licences. The ones who don’t have the paperwork are the ones who will dump your rubbish anywhere. But as the owner of the rubbish YOU are also held responsible if they do.
Rules are there for a reason
When the country is trying to clean itself up, it’s a pretty thoughtless, don’t-care attitude that some people have, which makes me mad. If we all broke the law when we felt like it we would be living on a great big rubbish tip. And think of the smell ugh !!!!
Going back to Saturday, and people ignoring rules, there were four people out riding quad bikes, roaring up and down the beach and doing doughnuts around people walking their dogs. Round they went in circles at ninety miles an hour, well maybe not as fast as that but you get the point. The noise from them was awful, which you will know if you ever hear one. Loads of people were standing watching, amazed at what they were doing.
Lots were videoing too as I believe it’s illegal and hardly somewhere to start the antics they were doing, dodging through people at what looked like about 30-40mph. The beach was busy and it wouldn’t have taken much to cause an accident. I wouldn’t mind betting a few people rang the police!
When lockdown ends
It will be nice when people can come back to Cleveleys legally and enjoy our town and beach. But residents don’t want to catch the virus from anyone, which includes all the people here who are ignoring the rules. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of people are being thoughtful and obeying distancing, but an awful lot aren’t. And now the north west has the unenviable title of top of the coronavirus leader board.
I’d rather stay put at my age. The longer people help to spread the virus the longer they delay the end of it. They ought to have a long hard think at what they’re doing.
