Well, what about Wednesday night into Thursday! Talk about stormy weather and Star Wars, did you hear the noise that woke us all up at 3am? I honestly thought someone was throwing bricks at our house, the noise was so loud. In my stupor as I tried to decide if Star Wars had invaded our back garden. Then I realised the noise was coming from the window at the end of the bedroom. We have a sort of glass end to the bedroom with a glass roof and whatever it was, was hitting it like nothing you’ve heard. The noise was deafening and scary until I realised it must be some sort of giant hailstone.
I was right. It was great lumps of ice hitting all the windows, rapidly, thick and fast until the roof was covered in ice. It carried on for some time. But in spite of never hearing anything so loud in my life and knowing we weren’t being invaded from above, I quickly went back to sleep. The glass roof had a thick layer of great lumps of ice the morning after, and my was it cold.
Jane had put the central heating on when she got up and was I glad. It was still cold, even though she’s up at the crack of dawn and it had been on for some time. It was the main topic of conversation when we met up. We’d all been woken up, they were some hailstones!
Anyway, speaking of Star Wars sets, it looks like they’re packing up and going off to their next galaxy.
Stormy Weather and Star Wars
On Thursday they were filming on Anchorsholme promenade. In spite of it being a cold morning at least the sun was shining for them, along with a brisk wind. Before it started raining!
Jane went to see what was happening and report back. The team at Jubilee Gardens were packing up so she went to Anchorsholme to see what was happening there. She was lucky that she didn’t get wet! The clouds rolled in and down came the rain, just as she got back here. We’ve watched this video she did and my did they look cold.
There were lots of nose-to-nose coaches, presumably which had brought the two hundred extras in. They were dressed in the same sort of black dressing gown they had on before and you could see the costumes below the knees, which was intriguing. They looked like a procession of mediaeval monks as they paraded in a line to an open van. There they were each given a bag of something or other – hubby said they were doing a market scene so were each taking a bag to set it up. They looked so monastic though and quite eerie, all these black hooded people in a line.
Then Jane did something which made us all groan with apprehension. She climbed onto the wall on the houses side of the road which is quite high from the pavement. She obviously wanted to see above the vans and everything to get a better view of what was happening. I don’t know what made her do it though, because she’s well known for falling into ponds or anything else that takes her fancy.
Splash
When we lived in Yorkshire, we had a big pond with a bridge over it. One day Kevin was emptying it to clean the pond and filters and Jane was ‘helping’ him. As pond keepers will know, when you have plants in them, the bottom gets caked in sludge and silt. So what did she do? Yes, she lost her balance and fell into the water and sludge. Meanwhile, we were all splitting our sides laughing at her. She emerged wet through from top to bottom and caked in mud. Well she loved playing in mud when she was little, so maybe she fancied making mud pies or something. Who knows!
She was well named when we called her Jane as she is a proper Calamity Jane believe me. She trips, falls over and does all sorts of things that make us all cover our eyes and hold our breath until she’s finished. In between saying ‘have you finished yet’ and waiting for a big bang or smash, depending on what she’s doing!
Anyway, back to stormy weather and Star Wars. As I’ve said before it’s not something I’ve ever watched as it’s not my cup of tea. I’ve never heard of the star, Diego somebody or other, or anyone else that’s in it. But apparently he was on set too, although what he looks like I couldn’t tell you.
Action!
Suddenly the black cloaks came off and would you believe, they started throwing themselves over the metal railings. Their costumes were distinctly middle eastern, maybe that’s not what it is, although the palm trees don’t exactly fit in on our Cleveleys prom. They’d be in shreds in two minutes with our English weather!
We saw a man dressed in something futuristic, think he was one of the Shoretroopers. Then the director called for silence and did his clapperboard thing. It was fascinating as us mere mortals don’t get to see that sort of thing every day, do we.
Stormy Weather Approaching…
While Jane was precariously balanced on the sea wall, she watched big black clouds roll up on the horizon. Living here, she knew that rain was coming and would happen very quickly when you see it approach like that over the sea. She was right, because down it came, cold and windy with it. She scarpered, so how the poor things went on filming in it I don’t know.
One thing’s for sure, it will be quiet on our prom when it all gets back to normal. I bet the crew will be glad to see the back of it although they have said they have been amazed how helpful and nice everyone here has been, so that’s nice, isn’t it.
