It’s always important to shop local, all year round. But Small Business Saturday is the day when small businesses are highlighted and shoppers are reminded! It’s the perfect time to support and celebrate independent businesses on the run-up to Christmas!
This year, Small Business Saturday is 6 December 2025
Small Business Saturday
This ‘shop local’ campaign was started in 2010 in the USA by American Express. It’s a grassroots, non-commercial campaign which highlights small businesses. It’s an annual reminder to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses, especially in the run up to Christmas. The campaign might just take place over one day but it aims to have a lasting impact, all year round.
Many small businesses take part in the day by hosting events and offering discounts. You’ll find thousands of them selling all kinds of things. Small businesses trade in all kinds of places – they work from home, your local high street and online. Next time you shop ask yourself whether you could buy from a small company and support someone just like you?
A Blackpool Small Business Success!
Aunty Social is an arts organisation based at Topping Street which was formed in 2011. Their delightful shop stocks a range of products from 60+ local artists and makers. They also provide events, projects and opportunities for people to develop new skills, creativity and connections with others.
In 2024 Aunty Social has been selected as one of the years SmallBiz100 line-up. This highlights 100 small businesses, one a day for 100 days, leading up to Small Business Saturday 2024. It marks it out as one of the UKs most impressive independent businesses – which it is!
We went to take a look at Aunty Social and to meet a couple of members of the team –
