Twelfth Night
Advent is a four week celebration of the Christmas season which ends on the Twelfth Night. Twelfth Night is a Christian festival that takes place on the last night of the Twelve Days of Christmas. It marks the coming of the Epiphany, the revelation of God incarnate as Jesus Christ.
Christmas Day is considered the “First Day of Christmas” and the Twelve Days are 25 December – 5 January, inclusive. This makes Twelfth Night the 5 January, which is the eve of Epiphany.
It’s customary to remove your Christmas decorations on Twelfth Night.
Epiphany
Epiphany is another Christian feast day, on 6 January.
In Western Christianity, feast of Epiphany remembers the visit of the Magi to the Christ Child, and so Jesus’ physical manifestation to the Gentiles. It’s sometimes called Three Kings’ Day. In some traditions it’s celebrated as Little Christmas.
And in the Christian religion, the Christmas season ends on the Epiphany on January 6. It’s another day when people take down their Christmas decorations.
