Art Trails on the Fylde Coast
We’ve arranged these from north to south! Starting in Fleetwood in the north, visiting art trails in Cleveleys and Blackpool and ending in St Annes and Lytham in the south. Some are proper art trails, others are areas where there are a lot of public pieces and monuments. Have fun!
The Esplanade Fleetwood
Although they’re not arranged into an official trail, you’ll find public artwork, memorial and statuary all over Fleetwood.
Head to The Esplanade, the promenade near the Lower Lighthouse, and you’ll find a number of pieces there. Take a look in the adjoining Euston Gardens to find even more.
The Mythic Coast Art Trail, Cleveleys
When the stepped sea defences were constructed, a new story was also created for Cleveleys. A children’s story, The Sea Swallow brings local fact and fiction to life, in a watery tale about this seafront.
Various key elements from the story come to life in a series of public artworks on the promenade and beach. Climb inside Mary’s Shell. Come face-to-face with the Ogre and discover just how many shipwrecks there are offshore…
Great Promenade Art Show, Blackpool South Shore
This art trail takes you along the very southernmost part of Blackpool sea wall, at New South Promenade.
Easy to spot, it’s where you’ll see the great big Mirror Ball – official name “They Shoot Horses Don’t They”. Between the Sandcastle Waterpark and the big tram depot at Squires Gate Lane you’ll find a number of pieces of artwork. Why don’t you go and take a look?
St Annes Seafront
Here’s another spot that’s not an official art trail as such, but there’s plenty to see.
Begin at the Peace and Happiness Garden at the right of the Pier. You’ll meet a lifelike statue of the late, great Les Dawson.
Continue South and the next statue is a lifeboat man standing tall on a plinth – he’s a memorial to the Mexico Disaster.
Walking through the Promenade Gardens you’ll find a variety of ornamental shelters and fountains. Each one a well-maintained memory of the Victorian founding days of the gardens.
Shifting Sands Trail at Lytham Hall
12 new contemporary artworks in the style of railway posters. Set within the grounds of historic Lytham Hall, they depict iconic landmarks on the Fylde coast. There’s also an exhibition of mid-century railway posters from the Lytham St Annes Art Collection, displayed in the Hall.
