What a Funny Week

What a funny week it’s been. Starting with Tuesday when Jane joined the Care for Cleveleys team for the first time since lockdown.

The sun was shining and everyone was busy weeding, cleaning and all the things that you do to make the town look more welcoming for visitors. Jane had taken a bucket of water, her marigolds and cloths to clean the notice board near to New Look. All of a sudden as she was lost in her soap suds, a woman came shouting the odds, asking when the bollards were going to be removed. Apparently there’s a school of thought that Jane was responsible for them being dumped a few months ago!

To say she was flabbergasted was an understatement. Especially when the woman said she was ‘sick of do gooders who haven’t got town centre businesses sticking their nose in’. When challenged she said that the ‘do gooders’ were the ‘hundreds of people who had contacted the council in support of the bollards’. What? So far from the truth that is such rubbish.

What a load of bollards

Usually Jane, being used to such situations, rarely gets mad but instead laughs it off. But the woman picked the wrong place and time. I think she’s had enough of turning the other cheek to those who can’t be fair and reasonable. Quite frankly I should have felt like throwing my bucket of water over her, even though in real life you wouldn’t!

Anyway, for once Jane gave back as good as she got. It appears that my hard working, selfless daughter who has and is doing her best to promote the town for people like her from the ex catalogue shop, is believed to be to blame for the bollards and other ills. Even though, and I can swear on a bible, she had nothing to do with them at all. You’ll see that they’ve been moved this week, and moving them was nothing to do with her either!

We were all as wise as the town was when they appeared – everyone thought the temporary pedestrianisation was happening! After a good fume when she got home, she calmed down but it was such an unfair attack. Especially in the middle of the high street with people staring at the goings ons. Talk about showing you up it’s not in it. Can’t some people be ignorant and obnoxious!!

And while we’re on the subject, we don’t have cliques in our local groups either. Having been the victim of such carry ons in the past, one of the things that this group is determined about is that no one feels left out and made unwelcome. It’s a horrible feeling.

Off with that distasteful subject, and my shock at Jane holding on to her temper but retaliating. We never see her like that! Anyway, when Wednesday came we went for a jolly in the sunshine.

Cafe Crawl in the Sunshine

We carried on with our coffee and cake afternoon with a trip to Fleetwood to visit the Ferry café. It’s run by a friend who’s known by many!

It was a lovely sunny afternoon (but windy, of course) so off we popped, wheelchair at the ready, into the lovely sunshine. It was really nice to meet up with Sharon, who was PCSO in Cleveleys for many years, and catch up on the chit-chat.

But what a surprise when we got inside. The place is huge with a long counter running down the room. Apparently it had been like bedlam up to two o’clock so she was glad that we didn’t get there earlier! She and the staff are going great guns and word is spreading about the place and how good the food is. It’s no wonder as it seems that they use only the best ingredients to get the best results. What do people do if you do this? That’s right, you go back and tell your friends to go there too.

Their fish and chips are legendary with good quality fish and lightly battered which is good. No burping and feeling sick afterwards! She uses Lurpak – no cheap margarine, best bread not the cheapest from a supermarket, and so on. We have heard that her frothy coffee is very, very nice so we had a frothy coffee. Mine was decaf, unless they wanted to scrape me off the ceiling with my old heart off like a trip-hammer, dope aren’t I!!

Flavour Burst Ice Cream

Anyway, we decided to pass on the cakes as we were anticipating her new ice cream machine. It seems no one else has one like it in Fleetwood.

I settled for banana while Jane had banana and chocolate – there are eight flavours to pick from. You can have all eight together if you can eat so much. The question is could you do it without throwing up everywhere? I certainly couldn’t but it was beautiful ice cream and flavouring, yum-yum.

I’m still racking my brain how to get a visit in to try their fish and chips. One of our YouTube viewers did offer to take me but I didn’t think hubby will go for that, do you?

Here’s the cafe crawl episode from the Ferry Cafe. Enjoy!

We did enjoy a good walk, well Jane did, along the front and my was it windy. It was gone four o’clock by this time so even though it was sunny, walking into the wind cooled the air down a lot.

We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon out in the sunshine, talking to a friend, catching up and just being out and about again. I wonder where we’ll go next time!

What a Funny Week – Whoops a Daisy…

Footnote from Jane: As you’ll know, Chrissie types her blog and then I put it online. It’s been a manic couple of weeks with everything reopening at once, so I’ve not always done it straight away.

We had a lovely afternoon on Wednesday. Then on Thursday night our Chrissie came into the living room after her bath, in agony with pain in her ribs.

I can’t remember whether we told you but she’d previously had a couple of accidents. First she’d gone flying in the garden and fallen on her side. Then she slipped getting out of the bath and fell onto the already sore side. To make matters worse it’s the side where her muscles are all damaged from her mastectomy.

On Thursday she confessed that she’d ‘felt something tear’ when she washed her hair on Wednesday morning… so it looks like two bumps have put her in line for ligament damage. After a day of enforced immobility in bed on Friday it’s subsided a little. so it’s just going to take a while to heal. What a funny week it’s been – meanwhile, she’s not doing any more typing. Under my orders!

And if you could have seen me washing her hair in the shower yesterday you’d have had hysterics. Funny wasn’t in it!
