Well that’s a weird title for a blog if ever there was one – Supermarket Apps & Slithering! We’ll do the slithering bit first…
You know how they keep putting shots of various people in the media who are trying to make the best of being stuck indoors. There’s creative things, making things, exercising and all the rest. Well we don’t need to do any of those things, as Kevin is keeping us on our toes with all his antics. He doesn’t have to try to be funny, he just is.
As you know, we have just finished decorating the staircase and hallway, no easy job was that. Anyway, I read them all the riot act when it was finally finished, with everything polished and fettled. If I caught anyone slithering down the freshly painted wall, or leaning on it, I am going to go ballistic. It happens here, especially if someone is at the bottom of the stairs telling you something. ‘People’ tend to lean on the wall while they listen to what’s being said above.
Have you noticed that matt paint seems to rub off, leaving a shiny look, which I hate. I have told them that if they need to lean on something, lean on the handrail side, not on the newly painted wall.
Well, a couple of days ago, Jane and I were in the hall talking about something, when Kevin came out of the kitchen round onto the return of the staircase and said ‘ I feel sick, I’m aching all over and I’ve got a headache’. (By the way before you run for cover thinking it’s the dreaded virus, it was from decorating and using muscles he’d forgotten were there!)
So as quick as a flash, as I saw him moving to lean on the wall, I shouted ‘get off that wall this minute, do not lean on it’ in my best strict voice. Kevin cracked out laughing and thanked me for my concern, that he could feel awful but don’t smear the newly painted wall. I think he felt better instantly at all the laughing that went on. I honestly didn’t mean that as it sounds. But I thought that it hadn’t been two minutes before it was finished and already it was being leant on! No good I say, let it last at least a week!!!
Supermarket Apps
Anyway, our now experienced shopper went to the supermarket and armed with a list, went on his tour of the shop.
Being someone who has to try out anything new, last week he couldn’t resist using his mobile phone to do with the shopping with their Scan & Go supermarket app.
So this week he gave it another go. I’m not exactly sure how it works, but you scan each item with your phone as you shop and bag your goods, cutting out the need for queueing at a till. Off he went to the fruit and veg and started loading his phone up with what he was buying. All was OK until he got to the oranges when it all went odd.
Oranges aren’t the only fruit
He only wanted two loose oranges so scanned them and got no oranges. Then he tried again and got a million of them, well not quite, but I didn’t fancy paying for a hundred oranges never mind eating them! Then he tried again and out came the information that he had bought a lot of tangerines. That also wasn’t true he didn’t, and hadn’t been near the tangerines!
Kevin is a person who doesn’t like being beaten by technology, but even he gave in and went to customer services where the woman there said it had happened to her. By this stage of the story, I was beginning to wonder if they had an absolute glut of oranges and tangerines. Were they trying to get customers to buy them all or what before they went off.
It turned out to be something or nothing and order was restored when he managed his two oranges. Phew, thank goodness for that, there are only so many oranges that four people can eat, not a cart load of them!
Slowly, steady…
He eventually carried on with the shopping, and you put your shopping when it’s scanned straight into your shopping bags in your trolley. So it was a good job he managed to get most of what we wanted. He was out two hours doing it this way and both Jane and I said that we would go to a till.
He said a lot of people were using their phones to shop like that, but I’m not going to be one of them. I did say how on earth could they check if you had slipped something into your bag that you shouldn’t. Shoplifting in other words, but apparently they spot check bags to see if you’ve been naughty.
Like all supermarkets, we know that ours gets its fair share of light fingered so-and-so’s who think they don’t have to pay for their shopping. But how they keep track on it when they’re using supermarket apps is a mystery to me, I have to say. At least he got back home, at just turned four o’clock, and a good shopper he is becoming bless him.
We would be stuck without him and his help and he carefully disinfects everything that comes from there so what more can you want. Keep safe everyone and don’t take unnecessary risks.
