Something to see - speedboats sending off Andy

Something to See

We always say that there’s always something to see at on the seafront, well Sunday was no exception. Just as we were eating our lunch at the table upstairs, I saw a few boats gathering. My curiosity was killing me and being of a bit of a nosey nature (as if) I had to get up and have a look.

There, just a short way from us, was a gathering of lots of different speed boats. The largest of them was a bright yellow racing boat, the type that are seen racing through the water at fast speeds. Then a large black one, followed along with various sized speed boats, right down to smaller ones.

It wasn’t a normal sight to have so many altogether at once, so I told hubby to get his camera as it did look interesting. Off he rushed, well not rushed as he does everything at 0 miles an hour bless him. But the sight of anything remotely different sets him off into Mr. Nosey with a capital N!

It did look strange, as they seemed lined up in a more or less straight line from the beach out to sea, with the occasional boat having a quick speed round in front of us.

The yellow racing boat went in a big loop with a good old roaring throttle to it. By this time, there were a lot of people congregating around the prom to see what was going on. They looked like racehorses in their traps waiting for the starter pistol to go off.

Suddenly, the yellow one gathered speed and shot off at goodness knows what speed and was heading towards Blackpool. Well, that blew our theory out of the water that they were going to race.

When the yellow one had more or less vanished, off went the black one to be quickly followed the assorted sizes and power all heading off to Blackpool. By this time, we were intrigued. Along with people on the prom. What was going on?

Not at all what we expected

Jane solved the riddle later on as they were doing something I would never have guessed. It turns out that a man who seemed to live on our prom had died and they were scattering his ashes. I would never have imagined that would you.

It turned out that Andy was a lover of the sea and had sailed all around the UK and abroad. So his friends from the Yacht Club at Skippool had given him a good send off.

We get lots of families coming onto the beach to scatter someone’s ashes – mostly into the sea. By boat is a first – or to my knowledge it is.

You can always tell what they are doing when they inter someone. There’s usually a lot of people – obviously families and friends. Sometimes they are right at the edge of the sea when they will scatter their loved ones ashes. And yes, we have seen them blown back onto them by the wind. It’s quite sad to watch. Obviously we don’t know any of them but we can share the emotion.

Our Valley Family

Anyway, changing the subject completely. Still on something to see, this time the television. Are you watching that Welsh family in the new fly on the wall series?

We had recorded it, just to see if it was any good, and watched the first two episodes at the weekend. You would have thought it was a sitcom like the Royle Family. There we were laughing our socks off, except I had none to laugh off, but by the good night, it was so funny.

A mum and dad plus three daughters are in the programme with a set of grandparents living next door. It was so funny. They all seemed shall we say, a bit of a few bricks short of a load. We were sure they didn’t know this as some of the daughters hadn’t got a clue.

It’s called Our Valley Family and if you want a laugh watch it if you like that sort of thing. For example, they didn’t know what to get gran for her birthday. So they decided it would be nice to paint the front of her house for her birthday. Now we did think it was a bit of an odd present but one of the relatives decided it would be nice to paint a seaside scene instead of a plain colour.

Beside the seaside…

Off they went and did the sand, sky, palm trees and all the rest and brought out two chairs for gran and grandad to sit on and think they were at the seaside. What the neighbours thought of it I dread to think, but I’m glad I don’t live near them, shall we say.

The street of terraced houses is on a steep hill so when they went out, the deckchairs were on a slope too. The green wheely bin at the front of the house is held up to stop it running down the slope. Drum roll and fanfare, with a stick the height of the bin to stop it rolling away!

We all thought it funny, even hubby who isn’t usually into that sort of thing. They were just so natural and obviously a happy, close knit family and so entertaining. We shall be watching them all I think! So, if you want cheering up have a look at them and see what you think. Let me know!
