Jane and I had our usual Friday morning video chat with our friends. It keeps us in touch as it’s so easy to lose contact while this horrible virus goes on and on and on and on….. One of the subjects was the chances of going to level three.
Would you know, we’d just come off the call when Kevin walked in to tell us we’d been put on level 3. Not good news for a lot of people. But don’t you think that something serious needs doing to stop this going round and round in circles.
The minute something like this happens, down goes the viral spread. When restrictions are lifted, up the spread goes again. I mean, do we all want a life of continually going round in circles? Or like a seesaw, up and down, up and down. It worries me that if people keep on ignoring the rules, we’re setting ourselves up for not much of a life.
Level Three and all the repercussions with it…
Politics shouldn’t come into it either, no matter who you vote for. I think we should all be fighting together to end this awful virus that has already killed so many people. I cannot for the life in me, and never will see, how such a lot of people are happy to risk theirs and others lives just to do what they want, when they want.
A large section of the population who have more sense, and know the solution is in our hands, are sick and tired of this ‘me, me, me’ attitude that some people have. We all have to make sacrifices, and will continue to do so. But while society is so split like it is, what hope is there of ever stopping it?
Meanwhile lives, businesses, jobs and families are all being affected, causing a lot of people grief, because some can only think of themselves. These are just a few words from me, and my personal opinion. It might be different from yours. But until we all work together to beat it, what hope is there of a ‘normal’ life again.
Back to the Dentists…
Anyway, that’s my sermon over for today. So onto my last visit to the dentists, last Wednesday morning. I won’t go on and on, but I thought I was having another wax impression done and yet another trip in two weeks time. So I was what you can only say thrilled that the finished job was in my dentists hands!
The fun started when he tried to put it in my mouth. The new palate I have is very clever. It works a bit like a vacuum and is pliable to a certain extent. That means that when you put it in, it sorts of springs into the roof of your mouth and creates a very firm attachment. So it shouldn’t pop out when you’re eating or talking.

How embarrassing that would that be. Imagine if your teeth shot out into someones bowl of soup. I would die of embarrassment, wouldn’t you? Imagine just being about to take a mouthful when a false palate lands in your soup, splashes all down your clothes and ends up with some very red faced people. I would be mortified.
Eventually he decided to put the palate into my dainty mouth and pushed it up towards the roof of my mouth. I thought he was trying to scrape the skin off my gums as it didn’t half hurt. After a few times of saying that it really hurt, he set to and started filing some of the plastic down.
A good seal
It is a very clever gadget. Instead of the normal thick lump of plastic in your mouth, the whole thing is almost translucent. You can’t see any of it when it’s in place. It’s hard to describe what it is really like. It sort of clips round the original teeth that you’ve still got and seals itself up completely.
Once more, some pushing and pulling, with me saying that it still hurt but just on one side. So off he went to do a bit more filing. At least he didn’t try and shave some off my gums now that would have been awful.
Finally he got there and at last it fitted thank goodness. I don’t know if he was more relieved or me but the end product was worth it. The false part sits so well round my teeth that you can’t tell when old ones met new false ones. Just the effect I wanted. Not the vampire fangs I’d had for donkeys years and which made me very self conscious. That’s no good for anyone is it.
My new smile!
Off I went out of the surgery and into the wide world. I was ready to flash my new teeth at anybody that passed! A short time later, I realised that no one would see my new pearly whites. Drum roll and fanfare, I’d got my mask on. What a let down!!
We popped into Cleveleys to have a quick look in the shops we wanted bits and bobs from. We also made a very short live video – reasonable for a first attempt but we’ll have another go another day –
As it was very early in the morning, hardly anyone was around. That suited us fine, with all the rules going round. Of course we got distracted by the thought of a nice hot chocolate drink.

So we sat outside the Coffee Bar in the pleasant sunshine. Which all of a sudden went dull when we sat down, wouldn’t you just know. But it was all very civilised, with tables further apart from one another and only a couple of them occupied. No one was anywhere near our table. But the best bit was feeling normal like we used to. Just having a drink outside in the lovely fresh air.
Simple things…
Personally, I can’t wait for life to return to normal – whatever that is. I think we’ve all forgotten haven’t we. But I think if that day ever comes, we all should be grateful. Especially for the simple things in life to come back to us. Won’t that be something to look forward to.
