Hello again everyone, I’m having a go at blogging again after being poorly. There’s only me could get pneumonia during coronavirus! It’s been a memorable journey I might tell you. When I’ve had it before you would think I would know what to expect, but no, I didn’t.
I started off with a cough some weeks before (before the whole coronavirus thing). With my stupid allergy to antibiotics and other reasons for not taking them, I soldiered on as I usually do. I tried to let my body heal itself. It wasn’t having any that’s for sure.
My body must have decided that enough is enough so when I woke feeling particularly grotty, Jane said, that’s enough I’m ringing the docs.
Jane: what an understatement! She felt ‘particularly grotty’ later on the Friday evening. Over the weekend her lungs were hurting if she took a deep breath and by Monday morning she was really wheezy and it was obviously getting worse!
Scene from Sci-Fi
As a result, off we went to Fleetwood walk in centre to be met by a scene from sci fi! We were met in the car park at the side door by two nurses in full gear from head to toe. That was when I realised I had to take it seriously as I might be a suspected virus patient!
The doctor came in and examined me, also dressed from head to foot in full PPE. My lungs were crackling, I had a temperature and my blood pressure was practically non-existent. He took it four times and then sent for another machine, it was so low!
Eventually, he confirmed exactly what we thought, that I’d got pneumonia during coronavirus! I’m clever aren’t I – missing the thing that everyone is catching and having something totally different.
Anyway he found an antibiotic that he thought I would be able to take so off we popped home. The experience was quite bizarre as we were put in an isolation room (the very top photo) and then you realise what they are all thinking.
Now I do feel ill with Pneumonia during Coronavirus!
I might have told you this before but if I have, please bear with me as I seem to have been more dopey than I usually am. I haven’t known what I’ve been doing half the time, other than staring into space with a blank look on my face.
The doctor explained that my blood pressure could be so low because of the infection, asking if it had made me feel dizzy, faint, etc. ‘No I feel OK’ I kept telling him. But by lunchtime that day I’d got all the poorly feelings he was asking about!
My family kept telling me that I got treatment just in the nick of time as I was so ill. The morning after I was gaga, vomiting and feeling pretty grotty, with a grand hacking cough. I bet you get the picture.
Anyway, I was in bed for a week and then felt very weak when I started getting up. The least thing wiped me out.
I got a text from our GPs to arrange a phone consult and was told to go back to Fleetwood for a chest xray to see if it had cleared up.
Sci-Fi the Sequel
That was another experience! Jane picked the forms up from the docs which said you can go at any time. So, wobbling all over the place like a jelly, I went to do the deed.
We weren’t allowed in until we passed a barricade where everyone had their temperature checked, a good move I thought while hoping I hadn’t still got one.

Then the wait. We’d thought it strange that they were doing walk-in xrays while all this coronavirus kerfuffle was going on. Jane had phoned but got a recorded message, still saying come when you like. Just my luck, apparently they started having appointments only that week.
There I was, trying not to melt into the chair, all two metres away from each other, so no conversation that you didn’t want anyone to hear! Eventually after sitting upright for ages when I’d got out of my sick bed to go there (all say aaah) I was called in and the xray done.
Thank goodness for that
Was I glad to get home, especially as it was boiling hot, and flopped when I got back. I’m pleased to say that after a short wait and a phone call to the docs, my chest was clear. And was I glad.
I made it plain at the first consultation I wasn’t going to the Vic as I didn’t want to come out in a coffin! So the clear xray did the trick. After that it was a case of recovering, although the symptoms carried on for a while after I finished the antibiotics.
My ribs still hurt for some time but that eventually settled and the cough took its time.
Thank you to everyone
But my family have looked after me very well so I couldn’t do anything but rest and recover. The last two days are the first time in four weeks that I’ve felt a bit better, so here’s hoping!
I must say a massive thank you to all my Facebook and blog friends who have sent so many lovely messages to me. It does make a big difference when you know someone is rooting for you and thinking about you. I’m sorry I couldn’t blog but I just couldn’t. Now that I’ve written the bones of what happened we’re up to speed and I’ll be back to writing my twaddle very soon.
