I thought I’d share some of our funny family moments and something that happened in our kitchen the other morning. Kevin was standing near to me at the fridge when I opened the door to get a few cherries out, which I love. But dopey me pulled the carton of cherries onto the floor.
Now our fridge and freezer are integrated behind a cupboard door, so you end up with a sort of a gap underneath when the door is open. Unlike a free-standing fridge which more or less reach the floor. There I was, with cherries spilling all over the place, like marbles onto the hard floor. And, you guessed it, into the gap.
Funny Family Moments
Kevin jumped into action like he does, especially as he knows that bending my knees isn’t high on my list of abilities – I can’t bend my left one at all. He got on his hands and knees and began feeling all around the inside of the kickboard to find any stray cherries that were hiding in the dark.
He groped way under the fridge and found more than he bargained for… Would you believe, fresh blueberries that were now like dried raisins, although they did roll when he pulled them.
Open the packet first…
Next came a full, unopened packet of Gouda cheese slices. Again mine, which I also enjoy, and as Kevin gasped at the shock of a full packet of cheese, he spluttered that it was from last November!
By this time I was feeling mortified. But in my defence you can’t pull integrated fridges out, not that it’s easy to pull free standing ones out either. How it got there, and all that way back is still a mystery to me. It looked as fresh as a daisy and no, I won’t be eating it any time soon!
Kevin just turned round with his cheeky face and said ‘Chris, the next time you put a mouse trap under the fridge remember to take the cheese out of the packet’. At that point I was ready to push him flat on the floor from his crouching position but thought better of it. If he had a back injury, where would I be then? But oh, the shame of it, unless you people out there don’t pull your fridge out either, which I hope you don’t, and then I won’t feel so bad!
Your Funny Family Moments
Anyway, enough of our house and our funny family moments. I wonder what’s been going on in your house? Have you all survived so far and managed not to get divorced or anything even more horrible. Or have you been as happy as Larry, as the saying goes (Who was Larry?)
Being as it’s now a full year since lockdown began I did wonder what other people had to say on the subject. Are you bored silly, depressed, want to go to work, want to stay working from home? Or are you like me and think time has flown. Why don’t you leave a comment below.
I’ve enjoyed being at home, which I usually am anyway. Although I’m out of a lot of the action here, and have to rely on my crowd to do the things I would normally do to make time fly, it still seems to.
Plenty to do
I have plenty of other things I can enjoy doing while sitting on my settee. For instance, I wouldn’t be without my adult colouring books as you get such a lot from it, I think. Learning how to blend, use different kinds of paints and pencils and all the myriad of things that go into each picture. How I’ve progressed over the last few years of my colouring is quite amazing. Talk about learning as you go on.
I also like a bit of reading, and a bit of tapestry work. Although I have to ration my time spent doing that, as my fingers and thumbs aren’t like they used to be, sadly. But all in all, I find plenty of things to occupy my time, as lots of other people seem to have too.
Thank goodness for the internet
It’s strange how our shopping habits have changed, well in our house anyway. Take clothes for example, Jane isn’t going out to meetings and events like she did before so she’s not been buying clothes. There’s no point to it. She has meetings via good old Teams and Zoom.
Online meetings have been a Godsend for the business – being able to communicate face to face with people instead of having to trail about all over the place. I don’t know why they don’t have meetings like that anyway, it’s a lot more time efficient to Zoom, don’t you think.
Then you hear of people who don’t want to go back to work, having had the enjoyment of being able to work from home. It was becoming popular anyway, even before the virus reared its ugly head. After having a business which runs from home I can well understand why people enjoy the freedom. Much better walking through the house to go to work instead of driving goodness knows how far. Or pushing and shoving to catch trains, buses and trams.
Nothing like it!
Having experienced both, my lot have said that, without a doubt, working from home is the best thing since sliced bread. But you have to discipline yourself to work a normal day, and at first it can be a bit challenging and tempting.
Once you’ve overcome that rush of freedom, it’s still nice to be your own boss and have things in your control. As Jane always says, she would rather clean toilets than go back to work for someone in an office, so that says it all, home is best in our house.
Maybe some good has come out of this virus after all, for people who have started to change their old ‘normal’ for a ‘new’ normal. After all, we’re going to have to adapt to living with it and not the other way round, that is certain. At the moment it’s controlling us, not the other way round, so you know what they say. Just go with the flow!!!
