We were all happy in our house as Koko didn’t have any more incidents on the carpet after his doggy plops do the other night. Phew, thank goodness for that. I’m going on to matters that deserve a rant from me now. Namely the neglected horses that have been in the press. Too many of which had to be put down as they were so ill and in so much pain. How the devil can anyone breed pure Arab stock and do to them what that shameful woman did. It beggars belief.
In total, 11 of these beautiful creatures had to be put down as they couldn’t be helped. And mostly due to the filthy conditions and lack of basic care that horses need. The RSPCA said they had never seen such a horrific state of neglect in a pure breed, whose foals sell for about £12,000.
Right here on the Fylde Coast
Altogether, 31 horses were seized from these stables at the Hayworth Arabian Stud Farm at the Sycamores on Jubilee Lane in Marton.
I don’t usually name names when I’m having a rant, but this time I couldn’t help but tell you who has done such dreadful things to the animals in their care.
The owner, Nicola Haworth,didn’t attend court, I wonder why. She was given six months curfew (oh wow) lost the horses for good, and given a 10 year ban to prevent her from having animals of any kind. She has to pay court costs of £4,000 and an £85 victim surcharge. Well that’s punishment isn’t it. Not! She should have been imprisoned for what she did to defenceless horses who had no say in how they were treated.
Neglected Horses
Apparently some of the stables didn’t even have doors, with wooden panels missing in their stalls.
The neglected horses bedding was covered in urine and poo and obviously hadn’t been cleaned out for months. Maybe the courts should have ordered her to sleep in her own urine and poo for months without leaving it and see what she thinks to that. Then she might get an idea of how awful it was for her animals.
Six of the poor horses had to be put down immediately as they were in such a bad condition, with five more later when it was realised they had no hope of life. The rest of the horses had behavioural problems and can’t ever be ridden as they are dangerous. Some of the horses hooves were so overgrown they could scarcely move. It was obvious that they hadn’t been outside for a long long time as the sand and paddocks were untouched. The inspectors even had to force entry into some stables.
It seems that the woman was ‘disappointed’ with the court ruling and denied the offences. She’s also very distressed about the order preventing her from keeping animals.
Unnecessary suffering
She’s even showed horses before at the Horse of the Year show, but denied keeping the animals in a neglected state in their stalls. She denied causing them unnecessary suffering by failing to give them hoof and dental care. How can she deny it when the evidence was as clear as the nose on your face? The woman apparently was flippant about the whole thing. How anyone can deny they have mistreated animals to the point that 11 had to be put down I’ll never know. When there is clear evidence in front of her it makes me wonder how brain dead she must be.
The RSPCA has already spent £42,000 in livery care since the raid on the stud. Then you find out she’d already been given two written warnings about what was going on but had failed to act. Why on earth if the authorities knew these animals were at risk, didn’t they stop her immediately?
The law should be changed
I know what I would do if I got my hands on her and it’s time the law on ill treating any animal is changed, with real punishment for the offender instead of them getting off like most do. People who know me will know that if there’s one thing I can’t stand it’s any animal being ill treated. There is absolutely no excuse for it at all in my opinion.
These animals are at the mercy of their owners to be fed, looked after and loved. I only told my two dogs this morning that they didn’t know how lucky they were to be looked after and loved. When I hear cases like this, it infuriates me as you can probably tell from my blog.
When you look in an animal’s eye and see the love and trust they give you, it breaks my heart to think that other people can’t see the same thing. Which is obviously what animal abusers are like. I’m sorry to rant on but animals, especially dogs and horses, have always been my one love. I wish the law could be changed to make abusers suffer like they would if a child had been abused.
Animals do matter, they hurt, bleed, feel pain and hunger just like a person does. So what right does it give someone to deprive them of the basics of life. I guess I’ll never know what makes one person love animals and another to inflict cruelty but I do know until a harder stand is made it will just carry on, sadly!
