Mauled to death - a beautiful dog just like this one

Mauled to Death

What did you think of that poor little dog who was recently mauled to death. Isn’t it just awful. As you may realise, I am a dog lover and owner and have been most of my life. To hear every dog owners first nightmare come true really upset me, both for the dog and the owners, they must be in bits. That’s something that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

The little dog is a Cavalier King Charles. I’ve had two of the breed in the past, long gone now but never forgotten. They are the most sweet natured, loyal dog you could have. As a breed they are fantastic, loving and everything you could want. My heart goes out to the owners, having kept them myself, I know the breed well.

Mauled to Death

The incident took place on St. Anne’s promenade. Obviously the police were called and the owners of the two assaulting dogs were traced and given a community protection order. Apparently the rogue dogs came from nowhere, attacked the dog and pounced on her.

Then tore her to bits and mauled her to death in front of the owners eyes. Eventually the owners came and ran off with their thugs, but it was too late for the dog who had been injured so much she couldn’t be saved.

The pain you feel when a dog dies under ordinary circumstances is awful. They’re a big part of the family. After all, they’re with you in the house 24 hours a day. I defy any real dog lover not to love their pets completely.

I just can’t imagine what it must be like to see that happen, I would be hysterical. Even if you don’t like dogs, I’m sure you can understand how the poor family must feel. They must be traumatised.

Changing the Law

I admire the couple, they’re so distressed that they’re carrying on with another petition. It was started by another woman whose dog had the same kind of death. When they’ve reached the required amount of signatures they can go to Parliament with it.

The couple are keen to get the current laws changed in the hope that other families won’t have to go through what they did.

But I mean, what good is a control order going to do? As dog owners, responsible ones, I bet you all feel the same on the subject. I will say that we all know our dogs and their personalities, don’t we? One of my last two dogs was inclined to stop and bark her head off if we passed another dog. She particularly disliked Westies – I’ve no idea why. But she would never have attacked one. She was more frightened than the dog she was barking at!

Important part of the family

As a result, we kept her on her lead in busy areas which solved the problem. She was a sweet loving girl any other time and enjoyed her runs on the beach. If a baby was attacked in a pram, which those dogs could well have done, there would be hell on earth to pay. We feel the same about our pets as a mother would her baby. They aren’t as important as babies and children, obviously. But I wonder what would be said if a big dog savaged a baby to death?

I’m just using this as an example. Who speaks for all the abused animals out there, with the most cruel owners. These scum would be in prison if they did that to a child!

I was attacked once, properly attacked, with one of my Cavaliers. Toby was an orange and brown Blenheim and I was bringing him back from his walk on a snowy day, through our local park and up through fields. This huge Springer Spaniel just ran from nowhere. Being a small person, I grabbed Toby and picked him up and tried to get him away from the dog.

Dog Attack

Springer was on his hind legs and nearly put his paws on my shoulders – with a snarl of teeth that would have done a Rottweiler proud. I had my wellingtons on and kicked out at it as it was trying to bite us both and it eventually went. How I’d have felt if Toby had been mauled to death I can’t imagine.

I was in a normal residential street with nobody in sight and I was terrified. My heart was racing and I was trembling. I rang the police who just didn’t want to know. So what do you do, the law’s an ass!

Always cautious

When Toby was a baby, a golden retriever jumped on him and frightened him to death. As my vet said, a big dog jumping on the back of a small dog can break the small one’s back. It’s a risk I wasn’t prepared to find out about. As a result having always had small dogs, I’ve always been cautious.

I just hope the family of this incident can soon find peace and recover from this terrible tragedy.
