Hello, hello everyone. Two very different themes for today’s blog. Eye tests over the phone (!) and the easing of lockdown restrictions. Let us begin…
Eye Tests – Over the Phone!
Before all this lock down affair started, my dear hubby had an appointment at the eye clinic, made just as the virus reared its ugly head.
Being of the cautious type, (that’s putting it mildly) we talked it over and decided it would be wiser to cancel. So little was known about the virus and people were going down in their droves. The worry about picking it up in a hospital was enough to do the deed.
Three months have gone by and he has another appointment so he rang the Vic to see what was to do.
For those of you who don’t know, he has Glaucoma, and has just about lost most of his vision in one eye. Which is not good when you are an artist, me thinks!
Mouth to Mouth
Anyway, the hospital have rung back, bearing in mind that an eye inspection is very close to the face of whoever is being tested. They use those machines that look like cyclops on legs, with all the funny metal glasses. Apart from the fact that cyclops had one eye!
So, as you can see we were a bit worried, as you are practically giving one another mouth-to-mouth resuscitation while the examination takes place.
As he has Glaucoma, he also has all sorts of tests that a normal person wouldn’t have. When they rang back to say that they would speak to him over the phone, believe me, his face was a picture! He came and found me with this incredulous look of disbelief on his face, at wondering how they could test his eyes over the phone!
All will be revealed
His eyes, he says, have got worse, so we thought they would have him to the Vic but no, he gets a telephone call instead.
The only thing I can think is that they will ask him all the relevant questions and then decide if he needs to go in person. Call me cynical, but what else could they do! All will be revealed next week when it happens. I’ll keep you posted!
Lifting Restrictions
How do you all feel about the lifting of restrictions on pubs, hairdressers and all the other places that are being allowed to open?
Is it me or is it a bit like asking for trouble? Because especially in pubs and clubs, how do you socially distance yourself from people around you?
People go to pubs etc to socialise, especially after three months of not going to them. I can understand how some people would want to go, but not to risk your life, or the people around you, for a few hours pleasure. It’s not as though the people who like to have a drink couldn’t get alcohol.
Half Head of Foils with Side Serving of Virus
You probably saw the hairdressers salons on the news, showing how they were coping with the lifting of lock down. There was a customer sitting in a chair having her hair done, without a mask I might add, with the stylist standing above her with just a visor on her face.
Obviously it was open at the bottom. She also didn’t wear a mask. As we pointed out, with the visor at the angle it was at, any bugs would be blown out and directly onto the person sitting there. There was no way that distancing was working there, so I wouldn’t be going in a hurry!
Jane’s hairdresser has been in touch, but she’s waiting until she sees what’s happening. Whether it’s surging or not. As we’ve said, we’ve isolated for three months so a bit longer won’t kill us, but the virus will!
The Cost of Alcohol
I also found it a bit alarming to see that police forces are sending goodness knows how many extra officers into towns, just in case the crowds run riot with the excitement of being out again. Just think what that will cost, and we, the taxpayers, will be picking up that tab. Hospitals will be back to once again having to leave other patients to see the drunks and drug users.
Have you watched 24 hours in A&E after Dark? You could do with having a look at it. There are violent, loud mouthed drunks and the rest, with stab injuries and heaven only knows what else. The staff have to put up with this while scared patients watch. It bears out what our friends have told us when they’ve been to A&E at the Vic.
Separate Areas
They were frightened and disgusted at the behaviour of such a lot of people. Saying it had to be seen to be believed. My answer would be for hospitals to have a satellite area where drunks and druggies can be treated. Away from the people who are ill and have to be pushed to the back of the queue.
Keep them together in one place and let them get on with it, instead of scaring other people to death. After all, no matter what the reason, they are taking valuable time up. They’re also abusing staff in public, which no one should have to put up with. That’s my thought for today that I’m leaving you with!
