I was reading about the Covid virus the other day and how the numbers are escalating... Plus the gathering of the yobbos begins again...

Coronavirus Continues

I’m just going to have to say something about our new common enemy today. Coronavirus continues to be a threat, with threats of more lockdowns looming over us.

On Friday we were supposed to have a very, very hot day – which we did have until nearly teatime when it clouded over and a cooler wind sprung up. Saturday was mixed as was Sunday, with sunshine and odd showers along with a cool wind.

No, I’m not trying to replace the weather woman on TV. It just has such a strong effect on what people do and don’t do, when it comes to going out in the middle of this horrible virus.

Busy, Busy, Busy

The beach, prom and car parks here were heaving, I don’t think I’ve seen as many people on the beach. Don’t get me wrong, it’s lovely to see families on the beach being families. It’s so lacking in today’s society with such busy lives.

In front of us, people were camped on the beach with a good distance between them, which is possible as the tide goes out leaving a lot of beach.

What was happening by the café I couldn’t tell, other than it was packed with people in the water and on the beach. It soon changed when the cloud came over! It was still warm but people just seemed to melt away as though the sun had never been out. After tea the cars were still here, but far less people walking or on the beach.

The trouble comes when people are on the prom and make no attempt to distance. It’s quite amazing to watch. Nobody wears masks and while I was watching didn’t even side step onto the narrow bit of the wall. Amazing I called it.

Coronavirus Continues at Seaside Hotspots

We just wouldn’t go on the prom when it’s so busy as you can’t get away from people. It looks like we aren’t the only ones, as hubby showed me on his iPad of St. Ives in Cornwall. It’s a lovely place to visit and one we have been to many, many times, but goodness me, it looked like there’d been an explosion of people.

If you’re familiar with the place you’ll know that it’s at the bottom of steep hills, opening out into a beautiful harbour area with turquoise seas. There is sort of a main road that takes you down to the beach where we walked many times. It’s the best access point to approach the sea, but parking is awful, as is taking a car down there. So when I saw the picture I was stunned. The long street, from one end to the other, was packed tight with visitors, to the point that it was ridiculous.

Keeping Locals Inside

Locals are refusing to go out amongst them, as there’s no attempt at social distancing. They looked like they were walking towards a football stadium with the amount of people there.

It wasn’t the only place. He also showed me a picture of the beach in Bournemouth. That was unbelievable – the amount of people on what is a long beach – looking like sardines stuffed into a tin can!

They did exactly the same as they did in the last heatwave. The picture of Bournemouth looked like the old black and white pictures of Blackpool in its heyday when the beaches were packed to the hilt.

I know that everyone, myself included, wants to have a Summer break before it’s too late. What I can’t get my head round is the fact that people are willing to risk a lot of lives for a bit of sunshine. It’s as though the sun isn’t going to shine ever again – which we all know it will.

Meanwhile Coronavirus Continues to Spread…

I would be petrified going among such a horde of people, whether it was outside or not. A big finger would come pointing out from the sky saying ‘she’s there, get her and give her a dose of virus’. You may laugh but my immune system is well known for not being as good as most peoples. So for me, the risk isn’t worth it. Unlike the people who are on beaches, sightseeing or whatever it is they fancy.

Even though there are threats of more lockdowns, it doesn’t seem to matter to people.

I’m beginning to wonder if a cloud of memory-loss gas has come down on the beaches, pubs, bars, nightclubs and any other venue they fancy. People just seem oblivious to danger. Even here in sleepy Cleveleys, although you should wear a mask in shops, too many aren’t doing according to our resident shopper Kevin. Distancing has vanished without a trace on the High Street.

Just an Old Fashioned Lass…

I wonder if these feckless people don’t realise they’ve been touching loads of different surfaces when they are in towns, not knowing if there is any infection there to give them the virus!

Young people are ignoring it too as they cram into bars and pubs to have a good time. That seems to be driving infection rates and local lockdowns as the infection rates soar in the areas of their activity.

It must be me who is an old fashioned lass who can see the sense in rules that should be obeyed. I’m beginning to wonder if I’m a rare species as it looks like it!!
