I think some people have gone deaf or daft – whichever fits them best. The government message is Stay at Home unless it’s necessary. And if you go out don’t head for the same place as everyone else!
We still, even on such cold, overcast days, get lots of people on the beach and of course, a full car park. Will they ever learn. It’s not so bad on the beach when the tide’s out. There’s plenty of space so you can at least get a good distance between people.
But on the promenade footpath, you wouldn’t know there was a pandemic. They’re all strolling about, going near to each other on a path that isn’t even 6′ wide in places. It makes me so mad that they won’t behave. OK they are exercising, but where are they from? Not nearby I bet, but then I’ve become cynical in my old age!
Something had happened to someone this week, as Kevin had spotted an ambulance going towards the five bar gate. Of course, living in a house full of very curious people (I’ll not call it nosey but we are really) we like to know if a pebble moves on the prom. So somebody was bound to see what was happening.
What has happened?
I was sitting on my bedroom floor, sorting some jumpers out, so I wasn’t going to spring into action to see what was what. I knew I’d be told later by my own private detectives. As I haven’t got a spring in me, never mind a broken one, I waited until someone told me where it went and what had happened.
I didn’t have to wait long as it seems the ambulance went through the gate to someone who was on the floor, so who or why they were there is yet to be found out. I hope it wasn’t too bad for the person and they must have been freezing lying on the floor in this temperature. Fingers crossed that he or she is OK.

Still speaking about the virus and the crass stupidity of some people. Have you heard about the rave in London where 300 people met? They must know better than the NHS and every expert under the sun. And they’d locked the door from inside to prevent police getting in. The idiots, what would they have done if a fire or panic broke out?
I would have locked the door from outside and left them there to infect each other, cruel aren’t I. But I wouldn’t have to think like that if they behaved. Another one I read about today was the story of the 50 students on a college campus having a party and hiding in cupboards when they police turned up. I did wonder how on earth they had managed to get a place at University. They sound so thick and stupid for doing this, that’s not intelligence. It’s either bravado or they think they’re invincible at that age or something. But stupid comes to my mind. How about you, what do you think?
Stay at Home Unless it’s Necessary and help the Hospitals
I read an article in the Gazette about the Victoria Hospital and how they’re handling the virus. Things are near to breaking point, with doctors and nurses going down like flies through stress and exhaustion. Can you imagine what it’s like to watch patient after patient that you’ve got to know, just dying in front of you? It must be awful.
The disease is hitting all age groups, not just us oldies, so why are they risking theirs and others lives? The intensive care unit at the Vic has doubled in size, with very ill people in the beds. The doctors have watched so many people die that they think the sedated ones on ventilators are better off. They’re unaware of what is happening to them.
The ones who remain conscious are terrified as they gasp their last breath. Imagine that – without your family there, all alone and aware you’re dying. How terrible must that be to watch – and for the patient. The poor doctors having to tell them that they aren’t going to get better and are about to die. Some are terrified, some just accept it. But doing this, day in and out, must be beyond awful for the staff who are watching it and the poor patients.
Some people have phoned relatives telling them they’ve had enough and want to die. Others take their masks or CPAP machines off, with their families on the other end of the phone, listening to their loved ones say that they’re dying.
What a thing to go through
The impact on staff, relatives and patients must be awful and that’s an understatement.
This is what’s getting doctors so angry – that some people still don’t believe there is a virus. Others ignore the rules, leaving over-stretched staff to cope with more ill people.
A 20 year old patient was recently admitted to intensive care, with a lot more in their forties and fifties. Proving that any age is vulnerable, so why do people take the risk? When this is over one day, and it will be, the backlash on front line workers will be huge.
When the crisis stops…
If we’re stressed beyond belief we all keep going and cope, because we have to. It’s when that time stops and the adrenaline being pumped round our bodies stops. That’s when you crumple in a heap and as we say in Yorkshire, let your elastic go. It hits you like a ton of bricks – I’ve got the T-shirt!
Well there are going to be loads and loads of the medical teams who will need a lot of aftercare – mentally never mind physically. So when people want to do unnecessary things like meet with friends, or houseparty or whatever the reason, stop and think about what you may be helping to cause. The continuation of the virus winning the battle and all because they want to be selfish.
We’ve got to continue to live – eat, shop, go to work, care for people, exercise etc. But it makes me so angry at the end result of the stubborn ’I’m not going to be told’ people. They think they know better than the experts. What the answer is I don’t know, but an answer needs finding sooner rather than later! Please – stay at home unless it’s necessary.
