What to write about is today’s question. I’m all out of ideas so I wonder if anyone would like to give me an idea of what they like to hear about? It would be a great help, as I’m not going out anywhere to find out anything. And I don’t want to bore you all to death with the antics in my house.

Anyway, enough of that for today. Did you see the fog this week? It was eerie, I kept expecting a monster to come rising out of the sea, it was so eerie. Yes I know, I have a vivid imagination and watch too many sci-fi and horror films but the mood wasn’t half set for one to pop out!
Covid’s creeping closer
One thing that has happened was outside a neighbours house. The other day hubby was upstairs when he saw a paramedic emergency car drive up to the bungalow behind us. Now as you know, he has thing about seeing what’s going on when he sees a fire engine, ambulance or such like. It brings his nosey side out. Maybe he is glad its not him, I don’t know, but anyway. Then an ambulance came with its siren going, and out of it came two or more men from space.
Yes I know, I’m getting carried away again with my sci-fi, but they did look like one of the films you’d see when an alien’s landed on earth.
According to hubby, they had white suits on from head to toe, and all the masks and visors etc you’d want to wear if there was a threat from another planet. Then the paramedic came out of his car dressed in the same gear, so you didn’t have to be wondering what was wrong with the person, we were pretty sure that Covid was involved. An elderly couple live there, so I don’t know if it was him or her that was taken off, but I hope they make a good recovery. We don’t know them because it’s just our gardens that back onto each other, so we hear but can’t see for the trees.
It seems to be getting too close for comfort for me, that and another patient in the flats near to us on the front, it makes you wonder doesn’t it! Let’s hope there’s a happy ending for both of them.
Changes at the Vic
Have you seen the picture inside the Vic emergency department? The first phase of the £13,000,000 ‘emergency village’ has been finished. It includes a bigger, upgraded waiting room system and a minors area for treating emergency cases that aren’t life threatening.
A isolation zone is in place for patients with covid to have direct access and be taken to a zone where they aren’t involved with other patients or staff. How good is that.
It looks a far cry from the A&E I went to a good few years back, which was like bedlam. Patients, and a lot of them, were in a big room, some on stretchers, some sitting up, but it was packed. Privacy did not exist! I was eventually taken into a plaster room to be seen by a consultant while I was left wondering why I was in there. Had I fractured something that I didn’t know of? Eventually in he came and ‘consulted’ with me. A woman was lying on one trolley in her jim-jams, covered in blood, it was awful. So, as far as I’m concerned it’s a good thing to come out of it, with a new unit that works well.
The good old days
When I think back to the ‘good old days’ and how basic hospitals were. It makes you realise how far the NHS has progressed.
My local hospital was run military style and was a place that seemed full of doom and gloom. It was like they were in those days – a red brick building and very old fashioned. And always seemed a place that you would be lucky if you came out of it!
It still makes me shiver when I think of it. To me, it seemed as though it was run like the army, rules were obeyed or else. Stay two minutes over visiting time and woe betide. The wrath of the ward sister fell on you, which was not a nice experience.
The wards were very long with lots of beds in them, again privacy was non-existent. Doctors and nurses were bowed to and revered, never mind answering back. Questions weren’t answered and it was altogether not a pleasant experience.
It’s a good thing that it’s changed today as it needed to, both for the patients and the visitors. So good luck with the new department, and bring on the next bit of the development.
