My Latest Stupid Adventure…

Isn’t it just delightful – wall to wall sunshine and out they all come. It’s nice to see people camping on the beach and doing what families should be doing, being families and enjoying free time. As you can see I’m back after my latest stupid adventure. I can’t even remember if I told you but I was washing my hair in the bath and it felt like something had literally torn across my chest, like searing white hot pain.

I don’t recommend it to anyone especially when you have a painful shoulder from arthritis. Consequently, I was in agony and couldn’t move my arm and my chest was on fire. Having had similar before, I knew it was a torn ligament or muscle, which would put me out of action. Once again I had to yell for help to get out of the bath or I’d still have been there. Anyway, the upshot was ice packs, painkillers and get on with it, like I do with everything else.

The reason I’m telling you this is because a) I’ve been missing and b) I want to tell you about the laughs we’ve had with me in the shower.

My Latest Stupid Adventure…

As you all know, I love my bath, so not being able to use it wasn’t funny. I had to stay in bed for a day as it was too painful to move. Just getting in and out of bed was agony. But I got there, and with a lot of help and laughter and the theme tune from Titanic, they got me out of bed.

But I still had to climb the stairs to get to the shower. Luckily it’s free standing in a cubicle. If Kevin reads this I’m still waiting for it to be done, ie taking the lot out and starting again. It’s the only thing still left from the original house. It’s funny how every time I mention it, it goes very quiet as if to shut me down. But they’ve no hope, I’m a woman on a mission!! Here I go again digressing.

Anyway, I only use it in times of emergency as showers and me don’t get on. I usually end up gasping and can’t breathe when the shower is above my head. So, my Einstein daughter came up with the idea of holding the shower head myself, rather than having it attached to the wall.

Oh yes it is… Oh no it’s not

Neither of us had a clue what to do. So we were both there, Jane fully dressed. She unhooked the head, which I couldn’t reach, and put it on the floor. Next came the switching-it-on job. With the door open, she turned a dial on and out came very cold water. There I was yelling ‘it’s freezing’ so she put her hand under it and said it was hot. So, off we went saying ‘it’s not’, ‘yes it is’ with me getting colder by the minute. I must say I was wondering if she was feeling alright, to not know hot from cold!

Time for Plan B. Kevin was cutting the grass in the back garden so we decided to open the window and ask what to do as he often uses it. There Jane was, yelling down the garden through the wide open window. I was shivering in the altogether, hoping someone knew what to do. With the window closed again, off we went to have another go.

The water was lukewarm this time so I knew emergency measures had to be taken. Having said that, I couldn’t have Kevin coming in the shower room with me in the buff. I didn’t want to kill him with shock, so I said I’d cover up. At which point, Jane got my nightie which I had taken off (this was the day I stayed in bed) and literally pulled it over my head (not forgetting I can’t move my arm) covering me completely. But with the tight neck stopping it from going straight over my head it stuck like a halo with just my face showing and all my body covered by a pink shroud.

My Latest Stupid Adventure – Blancmange, Budgie or ET?

I looked like a big pink blancmange or a budgie that’s been covered up, or even a nun it was so funny. She shouted to Kevin that I was decent and to come up and show us. By this time of course, we were helpless with laughing at my predicament and what I looked like. Then Kevin came in, took one look at me and did the same. Yes, laughed his head off at me. He thought I looked just like a Russian doll. Jane thought I looked like ET!

There’s no wonder he says that I’m funny without knowing it as that was a prime example. Of course he told us what to do when he finished rolling round the floor. All three of us were laughing our heads off, which isn’t advisable when you’re clutching onto your ribs and every movement is white hot agony. But anyway, he went back to his grass cutting and I got in the shower, with Jane there twiddling the knobs and telling me what to do.

She went and left me to it, so of course I picked the shower head up which was aiming at me and got drowned. I know I was there to get wet anyway, but not by self drowning. The water was just right, so I enjoyed the warm water pouring on me.

Get what you’re given

I had to get Jane to wash my hair as I couldn’t do it, which was another laugh a minute. I tried to keep the lather away from my face but of course it was baptism by fire, and I got what I got! Off she went again, now laughing at our hair-washing antics. Then she had to dry me of course, as my right side was rigid with pain stopping me from moving my arms.

It was nice to feel clean, but I didn’t feel squeaky clean like when you do when you have a bath. I’m so grateful we have a shower or I wouldn’t be amused at all I can tell you. My family know that if I can’t have a bath I’m miserable. So after my latest stupid adventure it’s a good job I could at least get clean.

I’m always saying how can people not be clean. It’s a mystery to me as I would hate it. Each to their own I suppose, but I can’t wait to get in my Epsom salt Himalayan, Frankincense and Bergamot bath soak and have a luxurious hot bath and lie down! Yum yum, can’t wait, hopefully it won’t be long now!!

Footnote from Jane: For several months, prior to this incident, I have been trying to impart the wisdom of investing in a bath lift. You know how kids don’t listen to their parents? Well it applies the other way round too!
