Jane and I had a trip out last Friday afternoon after our video chat with our friends. We enjoy the chats, as we usually do a lot of laughing and often at my expense. But who cares, it’s all good fun after all. Anyway, we thought we could enjoy playing truant and go out to Blackpool. Jane also had something to take back to Sainsbury’s. So off we went after lunch, to enjoy an afternoon out. Just like we used to do, back in the day.
It had been raining and was overcast but it didn’t matter as we were mostly under cover. Does the car park ramp at Sainsbury’s make you smile like it does me? , I love it, it just reminds me of the Pleasure Beach rides as it’s so steep and dark. It sort of makes you want to get your foot down and zoom up. I love it and the others always laugh at me, I wonder why. When I did drive, before my body stopped me, I could have easily been a bit of a speed merchant as my family will tell you. I mean you have to have a bit of excitement in your life, without breaking the speed limit of course!!!
Playing Truant part 2
Anyway, after we’d got that sorted out we went to Dunelm to look at some things I wanted. I’ve bit the bullet and ordered a new electric bed. Mostly to help my hurting body, but as I read and do crosswords and such until all hours, I’m in an upright position and getting stiffer by the minute.
It’s been on order for ten weeks now and delivery was 10-12 weeks so things are moving at last. I feel full of trepidation – the bed I have now is so comfy. Having talked to a friend and being assured that he loves his and would definitely have another if he wanted a new bed, I suppose it gave me the confidence to order one. Of course you have to have some new things while you’re at it.
I got a new mattress cover so that I can change it and not have to wait until one dries to make the bed. It’s a woman thing I suppose but there you go. I also saw some lovely bed cushions which I was tempted to buy to brighten the job up a bit. My present duvet etc. is a sort of beige and I fancy livening the room up, well you just have to don’t you. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it anyway. I don’t like feeling drab in a room, so action had to be taken.
Watch out, dangerous trolley about!
We had a lot of people staring and laughing at us when we decided that my knee wasn’t the best place to balance a lot of shopping. Jane went off to find something suitable, along with me in a wheelchair. She brought one of those basket trolleys with a long handle. It was brilliant, and off we went, knee relieved of the prospect of it all sliding to the floor.
Jane was pushing me and I was pushing the basket in front of me in a sort of train. What are we like, of course we couldn’t stop laughing, especially when people looked as though to say ‘are they lunatics or what’. By now, it was starting to pile up as we both bought some fluffy towels, well the sale ended that day and it was too good to miss.
We had a right good old time, mouching round the shop with our trolley leading the way. Jane telling me to go left, right, straight on. Sometimes she was a bit fast as I tried to manoeuvre it round tight corners and narrow passages but we got there in the end. Along with me shouting ‘stop’ when she got a bit carried away and we nearly collided, several times, into piles of things on display!! That would have been a sight wouldn’t it.
After being in there for ages, we went off to the pet shop to get some stuff for the dogs and then onto Aldi. I’ve been wanting to go to ours in Cleveleys for a while but never get the chance, so in we went for some bits that I wanted from there.
Only went in for a couple of things…
This time I had a handbasket on my knee. As you do when you only want a few bits, we got carried away and soon filled the basket. She’d piled all sorts round my body so we could carry them!

You should have seen my knee when she lifted the basket off. My jeans were filthy, goodness knows where it had been, but something in Aldi is dirty and dusty believe me if my jeans were anything to go by! Put it this way, they went in the washer when I took them off.
By this time, we were hungry and tired although Jane did very well pushing me. She said it hadn’t been a bother, thank goodness. But we thought we’d better get off home before the search party came out for us. It was going on for six o’clock when we finally landed but at least hubby had got the tea ready bless him, oh I was so glad.
We both really enjoyed our outing and rummage, although we were tired. I was very achy from sitting in the chair for so long. So having tea put in front of me was very welcome, bless him. The dogs were sooo pleased to see me, especially Muffin who doesn’t like me to leave him. But after a welcome bath and a rest on the settee, we got our mojo back. I wonder where we’ll go the next time, mmmmmm!!
