Making Videos in Blackpool

Making Videos

It was a bit of a funny morning for Jane on Monday, who went out early, making videos.

She decided to do her vlog first at the illuminations tableau at Bispham, which was interesting by the way, to show people what they look like in the day. If you’d like to watch it, it’s here –

That went off OK and so, job done, off she went to Blackpool.

Her next plan was to video the diggers that are demolishing Wilko’s, to make room for the new tramway terminus, new hotel, offices etc. The inside of the shop had been emptied a while ago. I bet that was interesting seeing what came out of there!

Anyway, off she drove and parked the car and went towards Wilko to watch all the construction action that was going on.

As she got out of the car (I always told her she should be a private detective) she overheard a woman at a nearby bus stop say that someone had jumped off the roof of the Talbot Road car park.

Heading off towards the dust and diggers, by now, lots of people were gathering around the area. Apparently it had happened only minutes before she got there. Not quite what she had in mind for the morning, but there it was.

Obviously the road between Wilkinson’s and the car park was completely blocked off, with flashing lights, police cars and ambulances.

What a shock she got at that news. It’s very sobering when you’re stood yards away from the scene of such an incident. A few minutes earlier and she would have seen him fall. Something that she told us she was glad she hadn’t seen. Sadly, other shoppers weren’t so lucky. He must have been a mess whoever it was, the poor thing.

No matter what their background and the reasons for doing it, nobody should have to be so desperate. It could have been anything making them deliberately go to such a high point, look down and jump off. It’s so awful isn’t it. We heard later that he was someone in his twenties. Goodness knows how, but he was still alive when they got to him. From what I read he was taken I think to Preston Royal, where he died shortly afterwards.

Making Videos of Diggers – not Tragedies

You could imagine what it would have looked like, can’t you. If there Jane was, innocently videoing the big machinery. So she waited in case anyone thought she was being one of those people who seem to enjoy videoing tragedies. These photos were taken as the incident site was being cleared away, after the ambulance had left.

Much earlier, someone did appear to be filming the incident and was told by a woman cycling by to stop, in no uncertain terms, and I should think so! I wouldn’t like to think that anything awful happening to me or mine would be shared for the world to see, it’s ghoulish. I just feel for his family, his mother and everyone close to him. No matter what the circumstances are that he chose to leave this world, it just seems awful that someone could be so desperate to want to end their life in such a way.

We’ve always said when discussing other such incidents that it takes a lot of courage to end your life. Being a coward and a scary-Mary I would never do something that involved suffering and pain. It would have to be an overdose of something or other where I just go to sleep and not waken up. I couldn’t do the things that a lot of desperate people do. Although I’m not thinking of bumping myself off just yet, as who would do the cooking and cleaning etc! That would be interesting….

Anyway, enough of doom and gloom I just wanted to tell you how she just missed seeing the poor fellow, and was glad that she didn’t.

But still on the subject of demolition, it’s cracked on apace this week and was coming down rapidly by Thursday –

Lets go to the seaside

Changing the subject completely. Hasn’t the weather been beautiful the last few days, at last a bit of Summer. It’s been very busy out here as you can imagine, lots of us oldies setting up camp with their deckchairs and picnics and just enjoying the beautiful view and the sea.

As it was lovely, Jane and I went for a stroll on the front to enjoy the fresh warm air. By and large we managed to keep away from people as the prom is quite wide at Cleveleys. We had a sit down and just loved the peace it brought, relaxing and feeling warm in the sun.

Even though we live across the road, it’s still nice to get out there and feel like a tourist like we used to be many, many years ago. Twenty five years ago, we’d never in our wildest dreams have thought we’d ever live here ourselves. We passed people who did, pottering about in their gardens, which I must admit made me feel a bit envious. When the chance came to buy where we now live, we took it. We couldn’t believe it ourselves, not being risk takers – and that’s an understatement. Life for us is so different here from living inland. I quaked in my shoes when we made the decision, but it was the best thing we could ever have done. To be able to see the sunsets that are out of this world and the beautiful sea – whether rough or smooth – is just beautiful.
