Life is Carrying on as Normal

Life is carrying on as normal on Rossall Prom. The amount of cars slowed down a bit, so we are hoping the people who are coming from all over the place are getting the message. They will be welcome when this is all over, but not now.

Normally on Easter weekend it would be heaving with cars and people, especially as it was sunny and warm. There were a few cars, but nothing like when it all started. I think people thought they were on holiday and flocked here to enjoy themselves. I just wish some people would accept that they have to obey the rules or it will never end, although it will for some people, sadly.

The punchline to the Easter lockdown is that once the Easter weekend was over, life just carried on as normal. From Tuesday all through this week there have been as many people about as ever. I’m sick of sounding like a worn-out record.

Shredding

Anyway, back to our house. I think I might have mentioned that our garden shredder, which is quite ancient, wasn’t happy. Kevin had spent some time mending it, then Jane decided to start doing some shredding.

I popped down the garden to see how she was going on and I thought for one minute we had a steam roller in the garden, there was so much noise coming from it. I did point out that the neighbours might not enjoy the sound of it before I went to carry on with what I was doing.

Suddenly silence dropped, which made me wonder why, when she had so much dead stuff to shred. Kevin disappeared and all of a sudden back came the din, although perhaps not as throaty as before. Then silence again, not long after.

I did wonder if it had conked out for the second time so I went to investigate and there she was (Jane) waiting for Kevin to mend it again. The deed done, off she went, happily shredding away and filling her boxes with it ready to make compost.

We’ve had great compost from shredding before, and as the powers that be have stopped collecting the green bins, something had to be done.

Life is carrying on as normal in the Garden

Everybody who has a garden will know that it has come at the wrong time. Loads of things need cutting down in our garden, I don’t know about yours. So it’s a good job we’d got a shredder or where we would have put it all I don’t know.

Although I was sickened when I saw the fly-tipping in the local woods where I used to live. Someone had dumped a lorry load of garden and other rubbish in the fork of a road, blocking access to other cars. What is wrong with people? The woods where I came from hold a lot of memories for me. Walks with my dogs over the years, up to the reservoir to see all the wildlife, and it sickens me to see what some people think is OK. However, it will happen whilever people are people, so back to our house.

Decorating

On Friday tea time last week, Kevin came upstairs loaded up with tons of dust sheets. I did wonder if he was going to cover me up to shut me up, but I was wrong. He started covering the furniture up as a precursor to starting decorating. I nearly fell off my chair with shock as we have plenty of decorating to do, believe me. It’s been put off year after year due to having a busy business.

I did say a couple of weeks ago, very tentatively with tongue in cheek, that it would be nice to talk about the chances of getting some cleaning done. I wasn’t given the ‘grimace’ and shot down in flames, so I thought it must mean that it would get thought about, whoopee!

Last Saturday came and the ceiling was the first to get done. It’s a big room with lots of awkward shapes, so he managed to get half of it done so at least that was a start. We aren’t in a rush so he’s gone at his own pace and done it as fast or slow as he wants.

Disrupted Dogs

So for the best part of a week, the house has looked as though it’s been shut up for years with all the dust sheets everywhere. The poor dogs don’t know whether they are coming or going. It’s taken some time for them to find their water dish as it keeps moving, depending on what is being painted.

Muffin especially is put out, bless him, as he likes things to be normal and by the way he’s walking around wearing his puzzled look, he’s wondering what in heaven is going on. He’s usually asleep upstairs in a morning but he’s kept coming down and following me round the house like a lost lamb. He’s looked so puzzled as if to say ‘thank goodness the kitchen and downstairs is normal’.

A week on and the living room is finished. I don’t care how fast he does it because at least it’s on its way, although I’m not sure if he knows how many rooms are on the agenda. That treat will come later!!!
