It’s today! You’ll find out what in a minute… But first, I keep nattering because I’ve had to cut the amount of blogs that I do, as Jane has had less and less time to put them online. Maybe you all think that my reduced amount of my blogs is a good thing or would you like more? I’d be interested to know what you all think.
It’s today!
Anyway, hubby has been back to the hospital for the third time to see the consultant about his eyes. If you read my past blogs you will know that he has been trying to sort his appointments since last March. It was months before he could go, because of the virus.
The poor lad got all in a muddle with all the correspondence and ended up going last week, when he should have gone this Friday just gone!
Off he went with Kevin taking him, feeling worried as his vision has felt worse. His appointment was for 11.15am, which we checked and double checked after the previous attempts. Yes, definitely, it’s today.
Eye tests today
Within five minutes of him sitting down in the waiting room, he was called in to see his eye man. Funnily enough he saw this chap once before and commented how crabby and terse he was so when he saw him again, his heart dropped. But consultant man was fine today.
They did some tests although he didn’t have all the in-depth tests he usually has. They will take place in four months time. Thankfully, he was out in 15 minutes and happily his eyes haven’t changed since his last appointment. But he’s got a cataract coming in his bad eye which is a bit worse, so that’s probably why he thought his vision was worse.
Of course Kevin, ever the comedian, said ‘well that won’t matter anyway as you’ve lost three quarters of your vision anyway’. What can you say to that. Of course we all started laughing as he was right.
‘Expensive’ eye drops
But anyway, it seems the ‘expensive’ eye drops have done the trick so far. They’ve kept it at three quarters of lost vision, like it was last time.
The chemist has tried to change them several times, and even said he couldn’t have them, the cheek of it. It’s not his place to contradict a specialist, who still said ‘no way, you need to carry on with them.’
Thank goodness he’s not lost any moresight!
Of course hubby being hubby, he told him why is sight was even more precious, as he’s an artist and paints for our Seaside Emporium online shop, along with other highly visual things. He didn’t stop there and gave him a Seaside Emporium business card. Isn’t he cheeky. Although the man himself said it looked interesting!
Extra Hotel Rooms
I think I’ll go onto more local matters now. Did you see that the extension at the Hilton at South Shore has been passed? They’ve applied to add 74 bedrooms, in spite of locals saying they didn’t want more added on to an already 130 bedroomed hotel.
I can understand their point of view. It must have been a shock to their system when the hotel was first built in front of them. I would hate to have had that stuck in front of me and lose my beautiful view.

The trouble is, going back to the 74 bedrooms that have been passed, you need car parking spaces for people who want to go there. I certainly wouldn’t stay somewhere if I couldn’t park my car. No way Jose!
The hotel chain want 86 spaces, an increase from the current 34. You don’t have to be a maths genius to know that is quite a bit of extra land.
Obviously, the residents behind the hotel aren’t amused. They’re already finding they often have to wait until someone pulls out of a space before they can get to their homes, which isn’t funny. I would go mad if that kept happening. It’s bad enough here when it gets busy but not like that.
Pay for parking
I didn’t know but the Hampton by Hilton charge people to park in their car park too, which is barmy to me. If I went to stay there, I wouldn’t expect them, or any other hotel, to charge me to park my card. Especially when I’ve paid out enough for accommodation! Even incorporating the cost into the booking fee wouldn’t seem as cold blooded. Well that’s my opinion anyway for what it counts. It would take the sting out of the tail me thinks, don’t you!
To soften the blow, the developers are giving £10,000 towards the cost of a residents parking scheme.. It was a proviso on the planning application. I thought it sounded like a lot of money to do that but I’m no expert on how much these things cost. It must be infuriating when you can’t park because of other people. We’ll see what happens!
