Anyone for Spinach?

Anyone for Spinach?

We had another laugh at our Kevin yesterday, in fact we couldn’t stop laughing. We were getting ready to put lunch out and Kevin, who is the microwave cook, decided to change his tactics. Anyone for Spinach?

I think he must have thought the spinach was tired of being microwaved and probably wanted a change! Anyway, spinach in hand, he asked where the blender was. Now for anyone who doesn’t know, he is a monkey for changing everything, and I mean everything. To the point where we go ‘oh no he’s off again’! It doesn’t matter what we buy or do, whether it’s DIY, eating or anything under the sun, it has to be researched. Then taken to bits and reformed, which can be annoying at times, believe me.

So, back to the spinach. It literally takes seconds to wilt in the microwave so it’s cooked while I put the dinner out. I was just on the point of doing that when he decided to go off at a tangent and see what he could to the spinach – ‘just for a change’ sort of thing.

Off into the blue beyond…

After we’d all groaned and moaned in despair, he got the blender out and stuffed the spinach in and then switched it on. He was as happy as a sand boy, laughing all over his face, at the thought of a different way to serve it. Why he wanted to, I’m not sure, but off he went with the blender just about sailing off into the blue beyond, taking Kevin with it.

We all told him to switch it off as he was getting a bit carried away but no, off it went. It was whirring its head off while probably thinking ‘turn me off before I explode’ sort of thing, which eventually he managed to. His face was a picture when he opened it to see the results.

Plastered

It was everywhere and I mean everywhere. Obviously plastered to the inside of the blender, and resembling green tea leaves or ground up mint leaves.

He managed to get it on the worktop and floor which takes some doing. But when you’re blitzed to within an inch of your life, you’d want revenge wouldn’t you.

We were all helpless with laughter at the green sawdust he’d made. So he got the spatula and scraped, then scraped some more, not knowing whether to get it off the front of the unit, the worktop, off the floor or out of the mixer.

He opted to clean the mess up first, probably because I was watching and he knew he’d be in the bad books if he left a mess for me to get rid of. Anyway, off he went trying to scrape the remains of the spinach up, which resulted in probably a teaspoonful by the time he’d finished and put it on his meal.

Anyone for Spinach?

It looked awful I must say, and no one else wanted to have a taste of the concoction. Probably a good thing as he’d have ended up with none and we would have got half a teaspoon of it! The icing on the cake came when he confessed he hadn’t even cooked it so he was eating very cold, uncooked spinach on top of his meal. It looked like someone had thrown chopped up grass onto it, unappetising to say the least!

I somehow don’t think he’ll be trying that one again do you, but you have to learn the hard way don’t you! That’s what makes him our Kevin. Inventor, crackpot at times, and all the other things I could say. He certainly provides lots of laughs for us all with his ‘inventor’s’ brain. I keep telling him he ought to be an inventor as he comes up with all sorts of ideas.

We all think he has an overactive brain as it never, ever switches off. He’s always re-inventing the wheel that was already working. We’ve had some right good laughs over the years but he seems to be getting worse for meddling as he gets older.

Reinventing the wheel

He immediately thinks everything wants standing on its head and he has to better what was already good. He just can’t help himself, so we just have to grin and bear it, with a lot of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ when he strikes up, which is almost every day. He’s definitely a fix-it man and if you want something breaking when it worked, he’s your man.

No I’m being unfair, we would have been in a right way if he hadn’t got that sort of brain. He’s rescued us so many times when things break that we’d otherwise had to have someone in to fix – and at what cost. So he can stay and carry on with his madcap brain as long as he wants, it wouldn’t be Kevin without it!! Anyone for Spinach?
