2019 is a big anniversary year for our favourite local landmark. See the train renamed The Blackpool Tower to mark the occasion.
Train Renamed The Blackpool Tower
Technically it’s not the ‘train’ that’s been renamed, rather a locomotive. A 1960s vintage railway locomotive to be exact.
Direct Rail Services purchased a class 37 407 locomotive and brought it back to tip top mainline operating condition. This railway locomotive used to operate excursions bringing people in to Blackpool to enjoy the resort.
It was at Blackpool North railway station on 29 May 2019, for the renaming ceremony which took place at 11am.
The Worshipful The Mayor Cllr Amy Cross performed the honours and unveiled the 37 407’s smart new nameplate in a short ceremony. A display plate will also be placed in The Blackpool Tower.
