I thought today I’d tell you about our Friday out – just about all day as it turned out – and a happy one it was too. It’s lovely being a bit more normal – not that ‘normal’ is really a word that applies to us!
We set off by going to the Venue at 11am for our weekly coffee morning which leads onto lunch with friends. It’s usually quiet at that time of day which is a good job, because we don’t half make a noise! We seem to keep finding things to have a really good laugh about, and I mean a good old belly laugh as they call it. By the time we ordered our lunch the place was filling up and we weren’t quite as raucous! Well there’s no point meeting up is there if you are all going to be miserable!
Jane and I had a lovely roast turkey dinner and it was delicious, a small version of the big one which is huge. I really enjoyed it I must say. Then we decided that as it had turned into a glorious sunny day that we would visit Blackpool and have a mouch round there.
Our next Cake Crawl
To say the kids have gone back to school it was quite busy, which is nice as it gives a good atmosphere. As it was just turned 2pm and we were starting to get peckish, we decided to do one of our cake crawl videos. We wanted to sit at an outdoor cafe in the sunshine. As the sun is obviously at a different angle now as we go into late September, more places were in the shade than before so we decided to call into one on Birley Street with tables in the sun.
We had hot chocolate and shared a slice of chocolate gateau. Although we were getting a little peckish, we were still quite full from lunch and didn’t want to end up like a roly-poly between us!
Shop, shop shop…
Then went off for a bit of shopping.
Surprise surprise, Jane wanted to go into The Works to see if she could get some tiny Christmas trees and such. She’s starting to make her driftwood houses again which proved to be so popular last year for gifts.

I stayed outside as she could get round better without taking me in with the wheelchair. Success, she got all that she wanted and more so she had a smile on her face.
We had a quick look in M&S but unless you wanted every sort of trousers you could wish for, we weren’t madly impressed and came out empty handed! A few more small shops in between and of course, including a pop into Poundland. As you can see from the top photo, I got a chance at being a bit more normal, modelling their Halloween range!
Being a Bit more Normal – yes right!
And of course, no trip to Blackpool would be complete without going in TK Maxx where it sorts of fell to pieces as usual. It’s the upstairs household things that tempt us.
Would you believe, of all things I got one of those silicone toilet brushes. I’ve been wanting one for a while one and it was heavily discounted so what can you do. A lovely pink silicone spatula came next, then Jane spotted one of those mesh, shaped back supports for driving. Or in her case sitting at her computer as she gets a lot of backache. I mean to say, it was reduced to £4 so you can’t leave it there can you!
Next for me came colouring pencils which, being me, I couldn’t resist. I used to collect towels, now it’s pencils. What am I like. They do get some good bargains in there if you can drop on them, much lower than full prices, so there’s no contest. All this was piled on my knee until I could hardly move without there being an avalanche. Off to the till we went before we spent any more, then ‘home James, and don’t spare the horses’ as the saying goes.
We weren’t back until 5.30pm! Luckily, hubby had got the tea ready and was I glad after being out all day. So to sum up, a good day out was had by all. After all, you have to enjoy the sun while you can, and a chance of being a bit more normal!!
