With the school summer holidays almost upon us if you haven’t already booked to go away with the family you might think you’ve left it too late. Don’t worry – there is still availability to get away this summer and some great deals to be had.
You just need to know how to find them! That’s where your Travel Counsellor can really help. Dean Snee, your local Travel Counsellor based in Poulton-le-Fylde, has put together this handy guide.
Get Away this Summer
Summer holidays are a special time after all. A holiday isn’t just about getting a week away from home, it’s about making memories that will last a lifetime.
So let’s have a look at a few of the most popular choices for this summer, including some ideas you might not have thought about before.
The traditional Spanish resorts are still popular and short flights make them a great choice, especially if you are squeezing in a short break or long weekend.
There’s plenty of choice, and if you can be flexible with your travel dates there can be some great prices.
- Look at travelling midweek as flights can be cheaper than weekends
- Be open to an odd duration rather than a straight week.
It can be a bit of a minefield looking at the extra costs some of the airlines charge for baggage, guaranteed seats together etc. There can even be charges for checking in at the airport if you don’t get it right. Each airline has different policies and prices.
But fear not, this is where using a professional takes away the worry. Everything will be planned so there are no nasty shocks.
Turkey is a fantastic destination for a family holiday. You can upgrade to a good quality, all inclusive resort without breaking the bank.
Although visitor numbers to Turkey fell substantially a few years ago when there were issues in the county’s capital, the resorts have really bounced back. You can be assured of excellent quality and value and because of that the resorts are seeing a real surge in popularity and visitor numbers.
And talking of value, one of the biggest growth areas that can provide amazing value is cruising.
If you thought cruising was all about older people, formality and high prices then think again. Yes, there are cruise lines that focus on that market but there are also cruises that are just made for families.
Ships can have an amazing array of facilities, from onboard water parks to tennis courts. There’s entertainment for every age group.
Cruises are perfect for multigenerational holidays with grandparents and children because there really is something for everyone.
I recently found a great family an ideal cruise. The holiday was for 2 adults and 2 children, sailing from Palma at the start of the summer school holidays in a family cabin with balcony for just £585 per person. That includes full board and so much entertainment, especially for the kids. Add on low cost flights and why not a couple of nights in Majorca to make it a real family holiday to remember.
Holiday parks are fantastic for families who prefer to stay in the UK.
They’ve come a long way in recent years and come in all shapes and sizes. Enjoy a rural retreat with luxurious touches in one of the UK’s beautiful national parks or go somewhere with all the bells and whistles for the kids. There’s definitely something for everyone’s taste and budget.
Did you know that there are lots of holiday parks to choose from just across the Chanel? Find them in France, Holland and Belgium so it’s perfectly practical to drive there in a day and experience somewhere different.
