Come along to this Disabled Access Open Day at Blackpool Transport at the Starr Gate Tram Depot.

Part of Disabled Access Day on 16 March from 10am to 4pm

Disabled Access Day is a national initiative encouraging disabled people and businesses to try something new, in the spirit of cooperation, safety and fun.

Disabled Access Open Day at Blackpool Transport

The doors at Starr Gate tram depot will be open for all on Saturday 16th March. It’s a rare opportunity to see back of house areas and for visitors to board a bus and a tram in a safe, quiet environment.

Anyone with any form of disability is encouraged to talk to Disability Awareness trained transport staff and gain confidence that they are able to travel by bus or tram on the Fylde Coast.

Come along and take a look

Jane Cole, Managing Director at Blackpool Transport said: “We want people who are perhaps a little unsure or anxious about travelling by public transport to come along. We’ll have a bus and a tram safely parked up and visitors will be able to explore the accessible features at their own pace. All of our trams and buses are fully accessible and our team of over 600 staff have all received some form of disability awareness training, covering both physical and hidden disabilities to confidently meet the needs of all of our customers”.

Paul Ralph, founder of Disabled Access Day said: “We’re delighted to have so many friendly and interesting venues taking part in Disabled Access Day this year. The variety of events is exceptional: we’ve got everything from multi-sensory storytelling and beach wheelchair try-outs, to virtual reality exploration, tactile exhibits and more. That there is strong support for Changing Places facilities at all venues is even more encouraging, and I look forward to reading about the experiences of all those taking part in Euan’s Guide reviews after the day.”

Make it easy for disabled people to get about

If you can make it along to the Starr Gate Open Day on Saturday 16th March, please consider adding a review of the venue to Euan’s Guide after your visit. By doing this you’ll be making it easier for other disabled people to find great places to go.

Those wishing to attend the open day can do so by turning up on the day between 10am – 4pm at the Starr gate tram depot on Saturday 16th March.
