Queen's Award for Voluntary Service

The Queen's Award is the MBE for Community Groups. It's an honour that is richly earned and deserved by those who are awarded it.

This prestigious award recognises the efforts of volunteers to support their communities.

Lancashire has a fine record in the development of this Award since it was inaugurated by HM The Queen, in the Jubilee year of 2002.

The Awards are announced on the 2nd June in each year. In 2012, two groups were recognised in the County. One in Morecambe and Heysham and the other serving communities in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.

In 2014, Rossall Beach Residents & Community Group, who look after the beach in Cleveleys, were thrilled to be only the third group in Wyre to have achieved the award since its inception. You can read more about the Rossall Beach Group here.

Over thirty Awards have been made to community groups in Lancashire, a record of which Lancashire can be proud and one of the best in England, and it would be fantastic if one of the many groups on the Fylde Coast could be recognised again this year.

The Award is the MBE for community groups. It is an important Honour and is richly earned and greatly appreciated by the voluntary groups who win it.

Nominations can be made at any time but the closing date each year is 30th September. Nominating is an easy process and the forms and requirements for an application can be accessed via the Web site:

www.queensawardvoluntary.gov.uk

The Panel can, given reasonable notice, make presentations about the Award to groups of volunteers and Council Members and hope that in this way they can further develop recognition of Lancashire’s reputation for volunteering.
