Fylde Coast Dance
Fylde Coast Dance are currently searching for the best dance talent in Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde. We are looking for young people aged 11-19 years from across the Fylde Coast to step up and show us how much they love to dance in the hope of gaining a place in this brand new company!
The Fylde Coast Youth Dance Company will be a flagship company bringing together the wealth of talent that the Fylde Coast has to offer to celebrate and learn from and with each other. Young people in the company will develop their dance technique and creative practice, learning how to create their own performance work, work with professional choreographers and dance companies and showcase all this on the local, regional and (hopefully) national stage. This opportunity is great for those who wish to go into a career in dance and those who just love to dance!
Leanne Kirkham, a dance artist who grew up dancing in Blackpool and originally started dancing at Langleys Dance Centre will be leading the company and has big dreams for the young people involved; “I am so excited to be working back in my local area and looking forward to providing a new opportunity for dancers who want to develop their skills further, alongside their traditional training methods. I have seen first hand how experiences such as this can support young dancers aiming for a career in the industry and am really pleased to be a part of this”.
Leanne visited Langleys Dance Centre last month to deliver a taster session, giving the dancers a taste of what the company is all about. 20 young dancers took part in the class, practicing their dance technique and learning all about creative dance practices having a go and creating duets and trios.
An audition will take place to recruit dancers for the company on Sunday 14th July, 1pm – 4pm at Blackpool Grand Theatre - registration has now closed.
For any further information regarding this opportunity, please contact Sarah Hall, Dance Development Officer at email@example.com
The Dance Development programme is managed by Blackpool Council’s Arts Service and is supported by National Lottery through Arts Council England, Blackpool Council, Wyre Council and Lancashire County Council.
