The tramway runs along the Fylde Coast from Starr Gate at the southern boundary of Blackpool, along the full length of Blackpool seafront, through Cleveleys to Fleetwood.

There are three simple fares when you travel on a Blackpool Tram: £1.50, £2.00 and £2.50

Concessions: From the 1st April 2014 only holders of the Blackpool Concessionary Travel Scheme passes can travel free of charge between 0930 and 2300 Mondays to Fridays and at anytime on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays on Tramcar services in Blackpool and Wyre (Cleveleys and Fleetwood)

Blackpool Transport Helps Town achieve WorldHost Recognition Status For Excellent Customer Service

Blackpool has become the UK’s first tourist resort to gain national recognition for its commitment to customer service, after being awarded WorldHost Recognised Destination status. 

Blackpool Transport Achieves World Host Status

The town received the recognition after it trained over 2,500 front line staff using WorldHost customer service training programmes over the last 2 years and signed a commitment to delivering amazing customer service.

Blackpool Transport began rolling out the training to its staff in 2015 and have also gained Business Recognition Status in their own right meaning at least 50% of their front line staff have been trained to WorldHost standard.

Since 2015, Blackpool Transport have trained over 490 employees, a whopping  72% of its total work force.

Blackpool, World Host Destination

The training can be delivered through various programmes, with Blackpool Transport opting to primarily deliver an introduction to the general principles of customer services along with training on serving customers with disabilities.

Having introduced Dementia Awareness training as standard in 2015, the WorldHost training programmes have further developed employees ability to cater for customer needs at Blackpool Transport.

Jane Cole, Managing Director at Blackpool Transport said: “Our customers are at the centre of everything we do, and being able to deliver a training programme to our front-line staff which gives them the confidence and ability to meet and surpass our customers needs has been fantastic”.

Other businesses to have gained Business Recognition Status include Sandcastle Waterpark, Blackpool Zoo & The Winter Gardens complex amongst others.

New Buses for Blackpool - Palladium is Here

Blackpool Transport officially launched their new Palladium branded Mercedes Citaro buses in front of Blackpool Tower on Thursday 21st May.

Six Citaros took part in the ceremony, with buses 550 to 555 lined up in numerical order on the Tower headland for the launch. The full batch of ten new buses are numbered 550 to 559, and they are painted light grey with a pale yellow band. The Citaros will be entering service on route 5 from Victoria Hospital to Halfway House.

Blackpool Transport orders 25 new buses for 2017

Having introduced 10 Enviro 400 City buses in 2016, Blackpool Transport has confirmed a further 25 will be added in 2017.

New double decker Palladium buses for Blackpool

Developed to a unique Blackpool Transport specification, the new order fulfils Managing Director Jane Cole’s vision to further bolster the fleet year on year to ensure no bus in Blackpool is older than 5 years by 2020.

The 25 new buses are planned to operate on the ever popular Service 14 and will offer an improved social seating specification to the ones already in operation.  Highly praised USB charging points, WiFi, E-leather seating, wood effect flooring and audio/visual announcements will all return to continue to deliver an excellent customer experience.

Improved social seating will see seats grouped around 3 tables in the upper saloon, providing space for customers to continue their work or studies during their daily commute.

A well used route for school and college students means travel time will become more productive and sociable for the younger generation of passengers as well as improving the experience for families and groups.

Jane Cole, Managing Director at Blackpool Transport said “We have been delighted with the fantastic feedback received from locals and visitors alike on the 10 buses introduced this year. We are particularly proud of having responded to the needs of our disabled passengers who appreciate the low floor entry, wide access gangway and spacious wheelchair areas. Delivering an exceptional customer experience is our primary focus and these 25 new vehicles will continue to allow us to do so.”

It is hoped that the 25 new buses will arrive in March 2017 and enter service before Easter 2017.

All Change on the Buses for the Closure of Plymouth Road Bridge

November 6th was an important day for bus travellers across Blackpool as service changes commence in anticipation for the Plymouth Road (Crossleys) bridge closure from November 7th for up to five months. (The one near B&Q and Warbreck Hill Road).

It means that some Blackpool Transport bus services will be diverted whilst work goes on through the winter to replace the bridge.

Blackpool Transport will be doing its very best to keep your services running on time, but of course, some delays are expected along the diversion routes especially at peak times.

The decision has been taken to amend the relevant timetables in an attempt to allow for the additional operating time and delays that no doubt will happen as a result of the works.

Service 9 will run on a reduced frequency of every 12 minutes during the daytime Monday to Saturday to allow extra running time to be added to each journey. Layton won't be served during this time as Service 9 will be diverted via Warbreck Hill Road, Devonshire Road and back to its normal route on Talbot Road.

Service 9a will now run as Service 8 and operate key journeys only between Cleveleys – Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Service 5, 7 and 14 are also likely to be affected as a result of increased traffic in other areas.

Blackpool Transport Managing Director Jane Cole said “We will be doing all we can to get our customers to their destinations during what is going to be a difficult five months. The separation of Services 8 and 9 should help and we’ve put more buses into the service to help cope with the expected delays.”

Blackpool’s buses Celebrate the Green and Cream!

Blackpool Transport celebrated a milestone when Wednesday 26th October marked exactly thirty years since the company was formed out of the original Blackpool Corporation Transport Department.

Up until 1986, buses and trams up and down the country were run by councils, but Deregulation meant they were privatised. Blackpool’s buses were transferred to a company wholly owned by Blackpool Council.

The resort’s buses and trams have seen many different makeovers and liveries over the years, but to mark the 30th anniversary, the company repainted one of its Volvo single deckers into the old green and cream.

Blackpool Transport’s  Director of Delivery, Bob Mason said “We were approached by a number of staff asking if we would be prepared to repaint a vehicle into 1986 livery. We thought it was a great idea and we’ve put  524 into the iconic green and cream”

He added “Watch this space though, because we are also planning to repaint one of our double decker Dennis Tridents into the same heritage livery!”

New Palladium buses on service with Blackpool Transport

Blackpool Transport's 10 brand new double decker buses are here and were put into service on 22nd July 2016.

The buses, which are the first of their kind in the UK outside of London, represent a £2.2m investment and build on the £1.7m investment made for 10 new buses in 2015. The Fylde Coast bus and tram operator aims to ensure that no bus is older than 5 years by 2020.

These new double deck buses will be operate on Service 9/9a which connects Cleveleys to Lytham, with a 10 minute frequency Monday – Saturday day time.

Featuring the iconic Palladium branding, the vehicles not only feature a sleek exterior, they also host a variety of added benefits including seats that are trimmed with E-leather and a wood effect flooring. Free WiFi and mobile charging points on the lower deck are also a feature, along with next stop audio announcements.

10 of the brand new Alexander Dennis Ltd (ADL) Enviro400 City buses were showcased at a launch event on the Promenade in July, and the new buses were officially ‘opened’ by Cllr Christine Wright, Chair of Blackpool Transport.

“A vital part of our transport plans is the modernisation of our bus fleet and the introduction of next-generation, low emission vehicles. That journey has taken another significant step forward with the launch of these 10 ADL Enviro400 City buses today and our collaboration with ADL has allowed us to create a specific design for our customers, our drivers and will attract non bus users too.”

In addition to the unveiling of the new buses, Cllr Christine Wright also cut the ribbon and officially opened Blackpool Transport’s newly refurbished Customer Centre located on Market Street, another investment in developing the customer experience in Blackpool.

Trip Advisor says Blackpool’s Trams are Just the Ticket!!

Blackpool’s trams have once again been recognised in the annual Trip Advisor Awards, and it’s the second year in a row that the company has secured the top 'Certificate of Excellence' award.

Both the resort’s Heritage and new Light Rail Transit Trams have been awarded a Certificate of Excellence for superior Service.  It is based on consistently positive reviews from customers who’ve travelled by tram along the Fylde Coast.

Blackpool’s Heritage trams are now into their second year of providing tours up and down the Promenade for holidaymakers who love taking a step back in time to ride on the famous old double deckers.

Blackpool Transport’s Head of Heritage Bryan Lindop said: “I am absolutely thrilled by this latest good news from Trip Advisor and so proud of every member of the Heritage team for the brilliant contribution they have made again this year to enhance Blackpool’s Tramway experience.

"To achieve this accolade two years running is incredible, but proves beyond a doubt that hard work, commitment and dedication do pay off. The Blackpool tramway is the only place in the British Isles where we can showcase our long and remarkable history, whilst simultaneously providing a modern, friendly and efficient light rail system. Combining both experiences on one tramway quite simply gives us a great product and it’s so lovely for this to be recognised by our customers.”

The news comes in the same week as industry figures show a massive increase in the number of passengers being carried on Blackpool’s trams. 4.9 million passenger journeys were taken in 2015, an increase of 20 per cent on the previous year.

Blackpool’s new Flexity tram service is now in its fourth year and continues to provide a vital commuter link for local customers along the Fylde Coast.

The award also comes a few months after the National Passenger Focus Survey showed passenger satisfaction on Blackpool’s trams is running at 96%.

Blackpool Transport’s 24 hour ticket is here to stay!

Blackpool Transport’s 24 hour ticket is now a permanent fixture amongst other great value tickets.

As a thank you to customers, the 24 Hour ticket was introduced in November 2015 and it's been extremely well received. Originally due to run until February, the ticket has already been extended once and is now here to stay.

Offering great value for money and freedom, the ticket is valid for a full 24 hours from the time of purchase. Are you fed up of purchasing tickets later in the afternoon and being unable to use them the following morning? This ticket is for you.

Bob Mason, Service Delivery Director at Blackpool Transport said: “We are really pleased at the response to the 24 hour ticket and our customers have been telling us just how flexible this is because they can buy it at 4 o’clock in the afternoon and use it the following day as well, and don’t forget they are valid on both bus and tram.

“We have and will continue to explore new products in the future to give our customers as many options as possible when using our buses and trams”.
