25 brand new double decker buses officially entered service in April 2017.
Developed to a unique specification to offer the very best features for customers, the addition of these vehicles fulfils Managing Director Jane Cole’s vision to further bolster the fleet year on year to ensure that no bus in Blackpool is older than 5 years by 2020.
Finished in the instantly recognisable ‘Palladium’ brand, the buses offer free WiFi, USB charging points, social seating on the upper deck and next stop audio/visual announcements amongst other features.
Improved seating on the upper saloon means that families, children and adults alike can make better use of their travel time with seats grouped around 3 tables.
The buses have been allocated to some of Blackpool Transport’s most popular routes, with Service 6, 11 & 14 all benefiting from these high specification vehicles.

Blackpool’s revamped tramway system is proving more popular than ever, having reached a major milestone for passenger numbers.
Ticket sales from the trams show that 5 million journeys have been recorded so far since April 2016, building on the increases in passenger journeys since the tramway re-opened in 2012 and topping the five million passengers mark for the first time since 1994.
The good news comes as work progresses to extend the tramway from the Promenade up to Blackpool North train station.
Not only are more people using the tram network, but passenger satisfaction is also up, with 96% of people surveyed saying they enjoyed the experience in the latest figures by the Department for Transport.
Cllr Christine Wright, Chair of Blackpool Transport, said: “It is fantastic news that more and more people are choosing to use the tramway network to get around the Fylde coast.
“Its success varies from daily commuters trying to beat the traffic, to holidaymakers enjoying the ease at which the trams get them between attractions. Using the tram is not only environmentally friendly, but it is also an enjoyable way to get around and good value for money.
“It's great news that more people are regularly using the trams, and hopefully that success can grow even further with the extension of the line.”
Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, added: “The reason we are confident in the success of the tramway extension is because we know just how popular the current service is.
“Blackpool tramway is one of the fastest growing light rail networks in the country and there are no signs of it slowing down. Our tramway is known throughout the world and it is fantastic to see more and more people using it.”

“We get very positive feedback about how our staff deliver a fantastic customer experience and the value for money of the 24 hour ticket. The Tramway has been the number one attraction in Blackpool on Trip Advisor for the last two years and it won ‘highly commended’ in the 2016 Global Light Rail Awards for ‘Vision of the Year’.
“We will have two new trams joining the fleet this year in preparation for the capacity needed to grow the tram patronage even further.”
The 11 mile tramway runs from Starr Gate in Blackpool up to Fleetwood Ferry, operating a service every ten minutes during the summer season.
The tramway re-opened in 2012 following a major £101m replacement of the track, creation of a new tram depot and arrival of 16 new Flexity2 trams. The new trams have level boarding, making them accessible for all disabled users, allowing for faster journey times and a more energy efficient service.
At the same time, the previous stock of heritage trams still run as a tourist attraction along the same network during the summer.
Tickets for journeys on the trams start from £1.60, with Blackpool1 tickets allowing passengers unlimited travel on buses and trams over 24 hours for just £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.
Blackpool has become the UK’s first tourist resort to gain national recognition for its commitment to customer service, after being awarded WorldHost Recognised Destination status.
The town received the recognition after it trained over 2,500 front line staff using WorldHost customer service training programmes over the last 2 years and signed a commitment to delivering amazing customer service.
Blackpool Transport began rolling out the training to its staff in 2015 and have also gained Business Recognition Status in their own right meaning at least 50% of their front line staff have been trained to WorldHost standard.
Since 2015, Blackpool Transport have trained over 490 employees, a whopping 72% of its total work force.
The training can be delivered through various programmes, with Blackpool Transport opting to primarily deliver an introduction to the general principles of customer services along with training on serving customers with disabilities.
Having introduced Dementia Awareness training as standard in 2015, the WorldHost training programmes have further developed employees ability to cater for customer needs at Blackpool Transport.

Are you ready for the new Service 18? Every 30 minutes serving the South Shore area of Blackpool, from 5 November.
From the Blackpool Transport bus interchange at Corporation Street, via Church Street, Whitegate Drive, Waterloo Road, Lytham Road, Squires Gate Lane, St Annes Road, Highfield Road, Midgeland Road, Cherry Tree Road and Clifton Road to Tesco Mereside.
Blackpool Transport have scooped the Vision of the Year award at the recent Global Light Rail Awards.
The award, presented at the Global Light Rail Awards in London on 4 October, celebrates and rewards the most outstanding contributors to the Global Light Rail industry.
The Vision of the Year category recognises those who have committed to delivering ambitious and ongoing improvements to light rail services.
The judges recognised Blackpool’s intention to link Blackpool North Train Station with the tracks that currently run along the promenade with a 600 metre extension. With nearly two million visitors arriving in Blackpool by train, of which at least 80% travel either to the town centre or to postcodes along the existing tramway, the economic benefits of the works are clear to see.
The prize wasn’t the only piece of silverware up for grabs on 4 November, with Blackpool Transport also being shortlisted for Medium Size Bus Operator of the Year at the nationally recognised Route One awards.
A string of award wins and nominations is testament to the ongoing commitment of the company to rejuvenate bus and tram travel across Blackpool and surrounding areas. Recent news of a £16.2m loan to secure a further 72 brand new buses by 2020 will see the bus operator run a fleet of high tech buses all under 5 years old.

Managing Director Jane Cole was also a recent winner herself, fighting off competition from across the North West to win Business Woman of the Year at the recent Enterprise Vision Awards held at Blackpool Winter Gardens on Friday 29 September.

Blackpool Transport are shortlisted for awards at the National Transport Awards, the UK Bus Awards and the North of England Transport Awards, with winners all due to be announced in the coming months.
The Blackpool Transport app was launched in Spring 2017 to make bus and tram travel even easier for existing customers and for those people who don’t use the bus very often, if at all.
Jane Cole, Managing Director at Blackpool Transport said “Unfortunately due to inflation, increased operating costs and an increase of up to 15% in fuel costs, it has been necessary for us to implement an increase in some of our fares.
"These increases have been kept to an absolute minimum and where we have been able to hold the price of fares we have done so."
Saver Ticket prices held when bought via the app
All saver ticket prices on our recently launched mobile app will remain unchanged, making this the most convenient and cost effective way to travel around Blackpool and the Fylde Coast.
The new app lets customers purchase a range of saver tickets in advance via their smartphone. Once a customer has bought the ticket of their choice they simply activate the ticket just before boarding any Blackpool Transport bus or tram.
The app also allows customers to plan their journey, find the best route and even has a disruptions page to let you know if your journey may be affected by roadworks or diversions.
The new fares came into effect on Sunday 28 May 2017. Full information is available online at www.blackpooltransport.com or pop in to the Blackpool Transport Customer Centre to pick up a full copy of the new fares.
Blackpool Transport Services are revolutionising the way in which customers access bus and tram information with the launch of a new mobile App and company website.
The App has been introduced to make bus and tram travel even easier for existing customers and for those people who don’t use the bus very often, if at all.
The new App will let customers purchase, in advance, a range of saver tickets via their smartphone. Tickets available to buy include adult, child, young persons and a 24-hour group ticket too. These tickets can be used on all Blackpool Transport bus and tram services.
Once the customer has bought the ticket of their choice they simply activate the ticket just before boarding one of Blackpool Transport buses or trams. They then show their mobile phone to the driver or the conductor as they board.
The App offers much more than just advance ticket purchases with a journey planner also included. Customers simply put in a start and end point and the App will tell them the quickest way to get there. Live arrival times will soon be introduced to let you know exactly when the bus is due and the disruptions page can be checked for any last minute changes to services. At the minute live arrival times will only apply to bus services once introduced.
Blackpool Transport have also relaunched their website. Incorporating many features which the App carries, the website has been designed with the customer in mind to ensure it is as easy as possible to access travel information.

We know our existing customers will benefit greatly from not having to look for the correct change for that bus fare every morning! The App means that you can buy your ticket 24/7 so it doesn’t matter when our Travel Centre is open either, you can simply buy via your Smartphone.
The new App will, we’re sure, also appeal to those who aren’t quite so familiar with using our services. This App takes away much of the uncertainty about public transport and means you can really pre-plan your journey.
For our customers who use our website to access travel information we have carried out a full re-design to better suit their needs. The website is fully mobile optimised and we have focused on displaying the information which our customers need in the easiest possible way.”

More buses and trams, increased frequencies and enhanced features are just some of the positives of the recent service changes from Blackpool Transport.
These changes have been made with the aim of providing more punctual services which take customers where they need to go to and ensure that Blackpool Transport is prepared for the busy season ahead. An extra 600 driving hours have been implemented to meet the additional services.
Many routes now operate up to every 12 minutes in the day-time and provide more seats for customers with double deck buses. With Plymouth Road Bridge now open, Service 9 is again able to serve Layton.
In addition to the service changes, Blackpool Transport have invested £5.5m by adding a further 25 new Palladium Buses to its fleet, along with launching a brand new mobile App and website in the coming weeks.
The new App will revolutionise how customers can access information and purchase bus and tram tickets, ensuring customers can easily obtain information on all the services at any time.
The service changes are the result of months of research by the team at Blackpool Transport to ensure customers can get where they want to be, when they want to be there.
Blackpool Transport are constantly looking at how they can deliver the best possible service for customers and the recent Transport Focus Customer Survey results show that they give high satisfaction levels to the large majority of customers who live and work in the town whilst ensuring that tourism is supported with strong seasonal services too.
The withdrawal of service 10 was due to factors beyond Blackpool Transports control so increased frequency on Service 17 and the introduction of Service 2 compensates for that to cover the section of route between Blackpool Town Centre and Victoria Hospital.”
Customers who previously caught service 10 in the Watson Road/Highfield Road area have been supported with information on the nearest available alternative bus stops and any residents still unsure of how to travel are encouraged to contact Blackpool Transport for assistance.
The Blackpool Transport team has been out and about in the town to support customers through these changes and remain committed to getting as much information as possible to all customers. That’s why the new App and website will help to provide more information to customers and make travelling around Blackpool easier.
The changes introduce a new service connecting Blackpool with Victoria Hospital, Poulton and Cleveleys via Morrisons – known as Service 2.
Service 6 replaces south side of service 14 and frequency goes up to 12 minutes.
Service 7 frequency increases to 15 minutes.
Unfortunately, service 10 is withdrawn, long term roadworks mean this route can no longer operate well and customer numbers are already very low.
Service 14 reliability will improve as it no longer operates as a through route.
Service 15 & 16 will have double deck buses as more customers are using this service, Service 15 will no longer serve the back of the hospital.
Service 17 frequency increases to 30 minutes and will no longer serve Lindale Gardens due to low customer numbers.
Service 20 is operating school holidays and weekends to take you to Stanley Park, the Zoo and Marton Mere.

Blackpool’s trams have once again been recognised in the annual Trip Advisor Awards, and it’s the second year in a row that the company has secured the top 'Certificate of Excellence' award.
Both the resort’s Heritage and new Light Rail Transit Trams have been awarded a Certificate of Excellence for superior Service. It is based on consistently positive reviews from customers who’ve travelled by tram along the Fylde Coast.
Blackpool’s Heritage trams are now into their second year of providing tours up and down the Promenade for holidaymakers who love taking a step back in time to ride on the famous old double deckers.
Blackpool Transport’s Head of Heritage Bryan Lindop said: “I am absolutely thrilled by this latest good news from Trip Advisor and so proud of every member of the Heritage team for the brilliant contribution they have made again this year to enhance Blackpool’s Tramway experience.
"To achieve this accolade two years running is incredible, but proves beyond a doubt that hard work, commitment and dedication do pay off. The Blackpool tramway is the only place in the British Isles where we can showcase our long and remarkable history, whilst simultaneously providing a modern, friendly and efficient light rail system. Combining both experiences on one tramway quite simply gives us a great product and it’s so lovely for this to be recognised by our customers.”
The news comes in the same week as industry figures show a massive increase in the number of passengers being carried on Blackpool’s trams. 4.9 million passenger journeys were taken in 2015, an increase of 20 per cent on the previous year.
Blackpool’s new Flexity tram service is now in its fourth year and continues to provide a vital commuter link for local customers along the Fylde Coast.
The award also comes a few months after the National Passenger Focus Survey showed passenger satisfaction on Blackpool’s trams is running at 96%.

Blackpool Transport’s 24 hour ticket is now a permanent fixture amongst other great value tickets.
As a thank you to customers, the 24 Hour ticket was introduced in November 2015 and it's been extremely well received. Originally due to run until February, the ticket has already been extended once and is now here to stay.
Offering great value for money and freedom, the ticket is valid for a full 24 hours from the time of purchase. Are you fed up of purchasing tickets later in the afternoon and being unable to use them the following morning? This ticket is for you.
Bob Mason, Service Delivery Director at Blackpool Transport said: “We are really pleased at the response to the 24 hour ticket and our customers have been telling us just how flexible this is because they can buy it at 4 o’clock in the afternoon and use it the following day as well, and don’t forget they are valid on both bus and tram.
“We have and will continue to explore new products in the future to give our customers as many options as possible when using our buses and trams”.
